Does the live stream stop when its playlist ends? Not necessarily. If you mean the playlist playing from the creator’s computer or playout service, its playback settings determine whether it repeats. YouTube’s live broadcast is a separate stage: it ends when the encoder stops sending content, not simply because a media list has run out. If you mean a playlist in your own YouTube player, that does not control the creator’s broadcast.
First, identify which playlist is ending
“Playlist” can mean either the creator’s source of music files or a viewer’s playlist in YouTube. The setting that keeps a stream’s music repeating is on the creator’s playback source. A viewer’s playlist is separate and does not make the channel’s live broadcast stop or restart.
For a creator’s stream, think of three parts:
- Playback source: reads a file or list of files and may have a repeat setting.
- Encoder: sends the audio and video to YouTube using a stream URL and stream key.
- Broadcast: the live event viewers watch on YouTube.
YouTube describes the broadcast and stream feed as distinct parts of live streaming, including an example of a 24/7 feed. See Understanding broadcasts and streams.

What viewers see when playback reaches the end
If the creator’s source is configured to repeat, playback starts over. If it is not configured to repeat, the source may finish while the encoder and broadcast continue. Viewers then see or hear whatever the active scene continues to output; the result depends on the source and scene setup. For example, a media source may hide itself when a file completes. There is no single guaranteed fallback image or sound for every configuration.

Make an OBS playlist repeat
For a list of files in VLC Video
- In OBS, select the scene that contains the playlist.
- In the Sources panel, select the VLC Video source and open its properties.
- Enable Loop Playlist. OBS defines this setting as whether the source restarts after it runs out of media files; it is documented as on by default.
- Preview the scene through the end of the list. Confirm both the picture and audio restart as intended.
For one file in Media Source
If the source is a single video rather than a VLC playlist, open that Media Source’s properties and enable its separate Loop setting. OBS documents the distinction between Media Source and VLC Video controls in Media Sources.

Check the full stream before leaving it unattended
- Determine whether playback is running in OBS on a local computer or through a hosted playout service.
- Confirm the appropriate loop option for the source type: Loop Playlist for a VLC Video list, or Loop for a single Media Source file.
- Preview the whole scene, including audio, through the point where the list ends. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring stream quality before and during a live stream. Its YouTube live streaming tips also discuss testing encoder failover.
- If the broadcast itself goes offline, check the encoder’s connection and the stream status in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains how the feed is connected and ended: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- If you need a recording, arrange a separate local backup rather than relying on a full-day YouTube replay.
Will YouTube save the entire 24/7 stream?
Do not count on it. YouTube says a live stream under 12 hours can be archived automatically, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That means a day-long or longer broadcast is not guaranteed to appear as one complete replay. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. See Archive live streams.

Looping a playlist does not grant permission to stream its tracks or preserve that permission in an archive. Whether an Indian music stream is authorized depends on the specific recordings, rights holders, license scope, audience territories, and monetization plan. Check the rights for every recording you use; a stream being public or uninterrupted does not establish that it is authorized.
