In 2019, CUI Global agreed to sell its power supply business to Bel Fuse for $32 million, after selling its electromechanical components business the previous month in a $15 million management buyout. The two domestic sales closed that year as the parent shifted toward energy infrastructure and services. CUI Devices—the company formed from the electromechanical business—later changed its name to Same Sky in 2024; that rebrand came after, and is distinct from, the 2019 divestitures.
What CUI Global sold in 2019
The sales covered the two domestic businesses in CUI Global’s power and electromechanical segment, not every CUI-related operation worldwide.

The transaction values and sequence were reported by EE Times on November 13, 2019. The closing status and broader historical segment description appear in Orbital Energy Group’s SEC Form 10-Q for the period ended June 30, 2020.
What the former segment included
The SEC filing described products beyond power supplies: connectors, speakers, buzzers, encoders, sensors and industrial control solutions, alongside the AC-DC, DC-DC and point-of-load products. These are historical descriptions of the businesses, not an indication that any particular part remains available or interchangeable today.

EE Times said the electromechanical business represented approximately 36% of the segment’s $76.4 million in revenue in 2018. That figure is a share of the power and electromechanical segment’s revenue, not of CUI Global’s total company revenue.
Why the parent sold the businesses
CUI Global described the divestitures as part of a strategic shift. CEO Jim O’Neil said the transaction would help transform the company into a diversified energy services platform grounded in its existing product portfolio and gas infrastructure capabilities. EE Times also reported that O’Neil planned an aggressive acquisition strategy spanning electric power, oil and gas, and telecommunications infrastructure.

Bel Fuse framed its purchase as a way to strengthen its Power Group by combining complementary capabilities, sales channels and customer relationships. Those are the companies’ stated rationales, not independent assessments of the transactions’ results. EE Times reported the executives’ statements and transaction details.
What happened to CUI Devices
The electromechanical management buyout formed CUI Devices as a standalone company, with several senior managers joining the new business. In September 2024, CUI Devices adopted the name Same Sky. The name change is separate from the 2019 sale of the power supply business to Bel Fuse.

In its September 19, 2024 announcement, distributor Future Electronics said the transition would leave product model numbers, pricing, supply chain, business processes, quality and customer support unchanged. It described Same Sky’s range as including interconnect, audio, thermal management, motion, relay, sensor and switch solutions. These are continuity claims made at the time of the rebrand; they do not establish current inventory, ownership, support availability or compatibility. Future Electronics announced the CUI Devices-to-Same Sky name change.

The June 2020 SEC filing identified CUI Japan and CUI-Canada as held for sale at June 30, 2020, and said the company expected those component operations to be sold in 2020. The reviewed filing does not establish whether or when those remaining operations were ultimately sold.

EE Times also reported in 2019 that CUI Global retained a 20% equity interest in Virtual Power Systems, a machine-learning software company focused on data-center power infrastructure, and that VPS had raised $17 million in Series B funding earlier that year. Those are historical reports; they do not verify the present status of the stake, the funding or the company.
