It is not a universal error with one fix: the wording can describe different problems in different systems. Identify the program or command, operating system, complete error text, and path involved before changing settings or reinstalling software.
What does “Path not found” mean?
A path tells software where to look for a file or folder. An error with this wording generally indicates that the relevant program could not locate the path it was asked to use. The precise meaning depends on the software and operation: in one command, the path itself may be missing; in another application, a Windows environment-variable configuration may prevent required components from being found.
How does the meaning differ by context?

What does “Path not found” mean in the SINUMERIK DELETE command?
The Siemens SINUMERIK 840D sl / 828D Job Planning Programming Manual (October 2015) defines error value 2 for the DELETE command as “Path not found.” It separately defines value 3 as “File not found.” In this command’s terminology, those are distinct errors: one says the path could not be found, while the other says the file could not be found.
The command can use an absolute path before the file name. If no path is specified, the manual says it searches for the file in the current directory of the selected program. These definitions describe the documented SINUMERIK command, not Windows generally or every application that displays similar wording. Why might Simufact Welding report a missing component?
Hexagon’s Simufact Welding 2024.3 Installation Guide describes a startup case in which Fortran redistributables are not found. In that specific scenario, the guide says the issue may involve configuration of the Windows search-path variable PATH and INTEL_DEV_REDIST. It advises checking whether PATH contains the expanded value of the nested variable rather than the literal variable reference. The guide also notes that reinstalling will not help when this configuration issue is the cause. See the Simufact Welding 2024.3 Installation Guide.
This is an application-specific environment-variable example, not the same problem as a SINUMERIK DELETE command returning error value 2. Do not change Windows PATH or reinstall software just because an error contains the words “path not found”; first establish that the Simufact scenario applies.

What information helps identify the right fix?
- Program or command: Record the application name and, if relevant, the exact command that produced the error.
- Operating system and version: Note where the message appeared, such as during a Windows application startup or a controller operation.
- Complete error text and code: Include any return value, component name, or surrounding message; small wording differences can matter.
- Path involved: Copy the path as entered or configured, and note whether it is absolute or depends on a current directory or environment variable.
- When it occurs: Distinguish a failure during startup from one that happens only when a particular file command runs.
With that context, use the documentation for the specific application or command. Without it, “Path not found” alone is not enough to choose a reliable diagnosis.
