A European Hetzner CPX12 with a Primary IPv4 address comes to €15.99 per month before VAT, using Hetzner’s prices effective 15 June 2026. The US CPX12 price is $20.49 per month before IPv4 and VAT; the cited pricing does not establish a US IPv4 total. There is no universal home-cost figure: calculate it from the actual device’s measured power draw and your electricity tariff. Neither total includes every possible extra cost.
What the Hetzner CPX12 costs
For a Germany or Finland example, Hetzner lists its CPX12 at €15.49 per month, excluding IPv4 and VAT. Adding the separate €0.50 monthly Primary IPv4 charge gives €15.99 per month before VAT. Hetzner’s price-adjustment table says its new prices apply to new orders and cloud-instance rescaling from 15 June 2026. The IPv4 amount is listed on Hetzner’s cloud overview, a page dated 2022, so confirm that volatile charge before ordering.
For the United States, Hetzner’s table lists the CPX12 at $20.49 per month, excluding IPv4 and VAT. The cited overview gives the additional IPv4 charge in euros, so it does not support a US all-in total.

What the plan includes
Hetzner’s displayed European CPX12 specifications are 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM, 40 GB disk, and 20 TB of included traffic. Hetzner describes its Cost-Optimized plans as suitable for low-to-medium CPU use, but the available information does not verify that a particular YouTube playlist playback method will work reliably on this plan.

Average watts ÷ 1,000 × hours per month × electricity price per kWh
For a continuous monthly estimate, use the number of hours in the month you want to model rather than assuming one universal month length. If the device is already running, distinguish the extra electricity attributable to the playlist from the full device cost. Include only equipment that would run because of this use case, and use a meter or a reliable device-specific figure rather than a generic power estimate.

No home total can be calculated without those inputs. The result also covers electricity only unless you deliberately add other costs, such as equipment purchase or replacement.

- Location, currency, and tax: Hetzner’s CPX12 price differs between the listed European and US examples and excludes VAT.
- Public IPv4: The European example adds a separate Primary IPv4 line item. Do not assume it is included in the server price.
- Outbound traffic: Hetzner says it charges for outgoing traffic and describes overage billing. Compare the plan allowance with the data that your actual playback design would send out of the server. The available sources do not establish the stream bitrate or whether your arrangement would exceed the 20 TB allowance.
- Billing while stopped: A powered-off server is still billable until deleted. Deleting it early switches billing to hourly charges, subject to the monthly cap.
- Operating assumptions: Consider whether the server is allocated all month, whether home equipment is already on, and what reliability and maintenance you expect.

Which option is cheaper?
For the stated European example, the cloud-side baseline is €15.99 per month before VAT, before any applicable traffic overage or other optional charges. Whether home is cheaper depends on the measured electricity cost and whether you count the device’s full running cost or only its incremental use. For the US example, the cited server price alone is $20.49 per month before IPv4 and VAT, so it is not a complete comparison total.
Do not treat either side as a universal answer: the cloud price is tied to plan and region, while the home figure depends on your hardware, usage, and tariff. Also, the available information does not establish how a chosen server-based playback setup would be implemented, whether it would run unattended, or whether its stream data would count against server egress. Resolve those technical assumptions before treating the CPX12 traffic allowance as sufficient.
