YouTube Jewels are virtual items viewers buy and redeem for digital Gifts during eligible livestreams. Creators who meet YouTube’s requirements can earn Rubies when viewers send those Gifts. In short: Jewels are the viewer’s balance, Gifts are what they send, and Rubies are the creator’s earnings measure.
How Jewels, Gifts, and Rubies work
A viewer buys Jewels through YouTube’s website or mobile apps, then redeems them for Gifts during an eligible livestream. A Gift may appear as an overlay on the stream. Designs can include static illustrations, effects that interact with the stream environment, limited-time options, or combos that let viewers repeat a gift sequence. Available Gift types can vary by season and location.
For eligible creators, YouTube’s current Virtual Items Program Policies for Creators state that every 2 Jewels redeemed for Gifts earns 1 Ruby. YouTube calculates the creator’s net revenue by multiplying Rubies earned by $0.01 per Ruby. This is the platform’s stated calculation, not a promise of a particular amount of earnings or a direct payment from the viewer. Rubies are paid with other YouTube Partner Program earnings.
YouTube’s viewer policy says Jewels are not intended or permitted as a way to send payment or monetary value to creators. They are framed as a way to show appreciation and enhance community; the creator’s revenue is handled separately under YouTube’s program.

- Gifts can be sent only during eligible livestreams. Look for the Gifts icon in the stream to check whether the feature is available.

Creator requirements
To earn from Gifts, creators must be in an eligible location, participate in the YouTube Partner Program, accept and meet the Virtual Items Module requirements in YouTube Studio, be at least 18, and have verified AdSense identity. Eligible access appears in the Earn hub. Requirements and access are account- and location-dependent, so check the Earn hub and YouTube’s creator policy.

Where Gifts are available—and where they are not
YouTube’s current help materials describe Gifts on eligible vertical and horizontal livestreams. However, stream-format and device support can change as availability rolls out. A TeamYouTube announcement dated April 21, 2026 said Gifts were expanding to horizontal livestreams on mobile; for channels with Gifts enabled, they would replace Super Stickers on horizontal streams, with desktop support planned for later in 2026. Treat that announcement as rollout context, not a guarantee that a particular device or account has the feature now. Check YouTube’s Manage Gifts page and the options shown in your app.
Gifts are unavailable on:
- Age-restricted livestreams
- Unlisted or private livestreams
- Made for Kids videos
- YouTube Giving fundraiser videos
- Streams where live chat or comments are turned off
These exclusions are listed in YouTube’s Gifts eligibility guidance and creator policy.

These are platform policy limits, not recommended spending levels. Jewels in an account that is deleted or terminated are invalid and cannot be transferred to another account.
