The best Bluetooth soundbar for your TV depends on two separate connections: Bluetooth for sending audio from a phone or other source, and a TV input such as HDMI ARC/eARC or optical for TV sound. The JBL Bar 500 and Sony HT-S2000 both list Bluetooth and HDMI eARC/ARC, but they differ in channel layout, bass design and current U.S. availability. Their manufacturers’ specifications establish features—not which one sounds better—so choose by fit, ports and the way you plan to use the bar.

Can you play music from your phone through a Bluetooth soundbar?

Yes. Pair a compatible phone with a soundbar that supports Bluetooth audio, then play music from the phone; the soundbar acts as the playback device. Bluetooth source streaming is distinct from the soundbar’s connection to the TV. A bar can receive music from a phone over Bluetooth while using HDMI or optical to receive TV audio.

Before buying, check the soundbar specifications for Bluetooth source audio and confirm that the TV has a compatible audio output. The JBL Bar 500 lists Bluetooth 5.0, while the Sony HT-S2000 lists Bluetooth 5.2. These version numbers describe the manufacturers’ specifications; they do not establish which model sounds better.

How the JBL Bar 500 and Sony HT-S2000 compare

The following is a feature comparison based on manufacturer product information, not independent listening tests. The Sony’s U.S. product listing currently says “Item no longer available,” so check local stock and the exact regional model before treating it as a purchase option.

Which features should guide your choice?

Match the TV connection first

Check the ports on your TV and the inputs on the soundbar. Both models list HDMI eARC/ARC, and both list optical input. Sony’s page distinguishes eARC/ARC, while JBL lists eARC; confirm compatibility with your specific TV and the sound formats you intend to use. Bluetooth is useful for phone audio, but it is not a substitute for checking the soundbar-to-TV connection.

Choose a bass arrangement that suits your room

The JBL Bar 500 includes a separate wireless 10-inch subwoofer. JBL publishes the bar’s dimensions as 1017 x 56 x 103.5 mm and the subwoofer’s as 305 x 440.4 x 305 mm. Check both pieces will fit where you plan to place them. The Sony HT-S2000 instead has a built-in dual subwoofer, with compatible Sony wireless subwoofer options available separately.

Compare channel layout and formats without treating them as a sound test

JBL specifies a 5.1-channel system with Dolby Atmos and MultiBeam; Sony specifies 3.1 channels with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. These are feature and format descriptions, not proof of better dialogue clarity, surround effect or overall sound quality. The JBL’s 590 W maximum total speaker output is likewise a specification, not a reliable way to rank sound quality against Sony.

Consider expansion and current availability

Sony lists compatible wireless subwoofer and rear-speaker add-ons for the HT-S2000. The JBL comparison here is based on the Bar 500 package with its included wireless subwoofer. Availability can vary by region and SKU, so confirm what is actually included with the listing you are considering.
