For the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, League of Legends is listed as a PC team event with five players per team. The official pages cited below do not publish the event-specific match format or a complete LoL rulebook, so details such as eligibility, substitutes, game version, drafts and penalties remain unconfirmed.

What is confirmed for League of Legends at the 2026 Asian Games?

The Olympic Council of Asia announced League of Legends as one of the esports titles in the 20th Asian Games programme on February 22, 2025. OCA’s announcement confirms the title’s inclusion, but does not set out its competition rules.

The Japan Esports Union (JeSU) lists League of Legends as a PC team event with five players per team. Its page does not clarify whether five is the full submitted roster or the number of players fielded at one time. JeSU lists the esports competition dates as September 23 through October 2, 2026, at Aichi Sky Expo. JeSU’s 2026 event page also links to Japanese-language TBS Sports YouTube and English-language OCA/Asian Games TV broadcasts; the links identify official viewing destinations, but do not establish that either channel will carry every League match.

Who sets the detailed rules?

The Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) says the OCA appointed it technical delegate for esports. In its March 26, 2025 notice, AESF says the delegate oversees refereeing and works with the organizing committee to ensure technical arrangements comply with the 20th Asian Games esports technical and competition regulations. AESF’s notice describes its role; it is not the detailed League of Legends rulebook.

Which League of Legends rules are not yet established?

The official material cited here does not state the event-specific regulations for League of Legends. Until an official event or national selection document supplies them, the following points should be treated as unresolved:

  • Match format: whether there will be a group stage, elimination bracket, best-of series, tie-breakers or a particular medal-match format.
  • Eligibility and rosters: nationality or residency requirements, age limits, registration deadlines, and whether teams may use substitutes.
  • Game administration: the game patch or client, champion draft and bans, side selection, pauses, remakes and disconnection procedures.
  • Conduct and enforcement: referee authority, penalties, protests, technical-failure procedures and sanctions.
  • Equipment: whether players may bring peripherals and what hardware or settings the event will provide.

These details should not be inferred from Riot’s regular league rules or from previous Asian Games editions. The AESF notice confirms a governing technical and competition framework, but does not disclose those League-specific provisions.

Does Hangzhou 2022 tell us what the 2026 rules will be?

No. JeSU’s historical page lists League of Legends at Hangzhou 2022 as a PC team competition with five players per team, held during the esports programme from September 24 to October 2, 2023. Its listing for Japan shows six players and one coach; Japan finished the group stage with one win and one loss. JeSU’s Hangzhou page is useful historical context, not evidence of 2026 roster or match rules. The six-player delegation listing also illustrates why a listed team size should not be confused with a complete delegation roster.

Where to check for updates

Check JeSU’s 2026 event page and the official Aichi-Nagoya Games channels for subsequent regulations or selection announcements. When a full rule document is published, the key items to compare are match format, roster and substitutes, eligibility, game version, technical procedures, and referee and appeal rules.
