A Nightclub is not required to participate, according to the community-maintained GTA Wiki; Nightclub owners can use successful deliveries to add stock to their warehouse when there is room, while players without one can deliver for cash and RP.
How a Business Battle works
- Watch for the event. Rockstar says Freemode Event notifications appear in purple and explain how to join. Depending on the event, you may need to travel to a location or find a vehicle. These are general Freemode instructions; Rockstar does not promise a particular Business Battle spawn schedule.
- Reach the event site and contest the cargo. The objective is to secure the available goods while other players compete. Some battles involve collecting cargo from a vehicle or location; others add combat or other steps.
- Deliver the cargo before the event ends. A successful delivery is the point of the activity. For a Nightclub owner, the corresponding goods go to warehouse inventory if there is capacity. The GTA Wiki says that if those goods are already full, delivery instead pays cash and RP. It also describes marked drop-offs where players without a Nightclub can deliver for cash and RP.
Do you need a Nightclub or a public session?
No Nightclub is needed to join, according to the GTA Wiki’s community-maintained guide. Owning one changes the value of a delivery: it can supply the Nightclub warehouse rather than being only a cash-and-RP objective. The Wiki’s detailed delivery rules are secondary-source information and may change as GTA Online is updated.
Business Battles are Freemode activities, not separate story missions. Rockstar says Freemode Events are voluntary, so you can ignore the notification. Rockstar also says Freemode Events are available in private sessions, though many event types have minimum-participant requirements. Its support guidance does not give a Business Battle-specific minimum, so availability in a private session is not a guarantee that a battle will start with any particular player count.
Why Business Battles vary
There is no single pickup-and-deliver script for every battle. Event designs can change the number of packages, the type of cargo, and whether reaching the drop-off is a direct trip or follows combat or another objective.

Aircraft Carrier Assault and Factory Raid
Rockstar’s 2020 update notes say Aircraft Carrier Assault and Factory Raid have players compete for eight packages, compared with two in previously released Business Battles. That makes these variants larger multi-package contests rather than the simpler two-package format.
UFO Battle
Rockstar describes a UFO battle in which players work together to defeat Merryweather agents and take extraterrestrial equipment to Omega’s shack. This example shows that a Business Battle can use a cooperative, multi-step objective rather than only a direct race for a crate.

Other cargo types
The GTA Wiki lists cargo, weapons, and Nightclub-related products associated with businesses such as cocaine, meth, weed, counterfeit cash, and forged documents, as well as special event cargo. Treat that as a community reference to the game’s cargo variety, not as a guarantee that every category appears in every battle.

- Package count and objective: Check whether the event is a straightforward pickup, a vehicle-based delivery, or a combat-and-delivery sequence.
- Warehouse capacity: Nightclub owners should consider whether the corresponding goods have room in storage; full goods may make the delivery a cash-and-RP activity instead, according to the GTA Wiki.
- Travel and competition: The time and risk involved depend on the distance to the drop-off and how many other players are contesting the cargo.
The GTA Wiki reports battles lasting about 20–30 minutes, a 20-minute cooldown between activities, and at least three players outside when an activity triggers. Those are community-maintained, potentially version-sensitive figures, not fixed rules confirmed by the Rockstar support material cited here. They are best treated as approximate rather than relied on to predict when a battle will appear.
