The AMD Radeon RX 6700 is the closest practical desktop-GPU comparison for standard PlayStation 5 game performance in the cited multi-game testing. It is an approximate performance counterpart, not an identical GPU: results depend on the game, resolution, graphics settings, and PC configuration.
Which AMD GPU is closest to the PS5?
Digital Foundry directly compared the Radeon RX 6700 with the PS5 across multiple games in a February 2024 analysis. That makes the RX 6700 a more useful point of comparison than matching hardware by a headline specification alone. The PC test system used a Core i9-13900K and 32GB of DDR5 memory, so its results describe that test setup and the games and settings examined—not every PC built around an RX 6700.
The comparison covered The Last of Us Part I, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Alan Wake 2, Hitman 3, Monster Hunter Rise, Cyberpunk 2077, and A Plague Tale: Requiem. Digital Foundry’s RX 6700 versus PS5 analysis is useful because it compares delivered game performance rather than relying only on theoretical compute figures.

Sony describes the standard PS5 GPU as an AMD Radeon RDNA 2-based graphics engine with ray-tracing acceleration. Its published figures are a variable frequency of up to 2.23 GHz and 10.3 TFLOPS. The console also has 16GB of GDDR6 memory with 448GB/s bandwidth. These are PS5 specifications, not a formula for identifying a desktop graphics card with identical game performance.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
The PS5’s processor is a semi-custom system-on-chip developed by AMD for Sony; discrete Radeon desktop and notebook cards are separate products. A console and a PC card therefore cannot be treated as interchangeable just because they share an architecture or have similar headline numbers. Sony’s figures are documented in its PS5 hardware overview, while AMD describes the console chip as a semi-custom SoC developed for Sony.
What to compare before choosing a PC graphics card
If you are using the PS5 as a performance reference for a PC build, compare the conditions that affect the games you actually play rather than treating the RX 6700 as a guaranteed one-for-one replacement.

- Game and settings: Compare the same title at the same resolution and similar image-quality settings. Console versions may use title-specific optimization and settings.
- Whole-system performance: PC results also depend on the processor, system memory, drivers, and graphics settings. The cited comparison used a Core i9-13900K and 32GB DDR5, not every possible PC configuration.
- Memory: Consider a graphics card’s video memory and the PC’s overall configuration, but do not equate a card’s dedicated VRAM directly with the PS5’s 16GB of unified system memory.
- Ray tracing and upscaling: Assess ray-tracing performance separately from conventional rendering, and compare relevant upscaling features and image quality for the games you play.
- Value: Check current local prices and stock, then consider performance per dollar. Availability and pricing can change, so they are not part of a lasting equivalence claim.
AMD’s Radeon desktop GPU guidance likewise highlights gaming targets, video memory, compute units, performance per dollar, and gaming and upscaling technologies as factors to weigh. It is general buying guidance, not an independent PS5-versus-RX 6700 benchmark.
How to interpret the PS5’s 10.3 TFLOPS figure
TFLOPS is a theoretical compute specification; it does not establish how a graphics card will perform across real games. The reviewed sources do not provide a universal conversion formula or a named, dated cross-platform statistic that proves one desktop GPU is equivalent to the PS5 in every title. Use the RX 6700 as a practical comparison grounded in the cited tests, and treat performance in other games or configurations as uncertain until those conditions are compared directly.
