In July 2018, Make: profiled Wicked Makers as the collaborative YouTube channel of Austin couple Jay and Jaimie, whose projects ranged from skateboarding and tabletop terrain to electronics and Arduino. The profile offers a snapshot of the channel’s early creative range—not a current account of its size or activity.

Who were the Wicked Makers?

Gareth Branwyn’s July 14, 2018 Make: profile presents Jay and Jaimie as a husband-and-wife maker team based in Austin, Texas. It describes their YouTube channel as a place where viewers could follow their projects through edited videos.

Their reported professional backgrounds brought different strengths to the collaboration: the profile says Jay had worked in video gaming and animation, while Jaimie specialized in special-effects fabrication and had worked at DreamWorks Animation for eight years.

What kinds of projects did the early channel feature?

The profile describes a mix rather than a single narrow specialty. Its examples include skateboarding, crafting terrain for Dungeons & Dragons, electronics, and programming Arduino. Together, those interests connect hands-on fabrication with pop culture and technical experimentation.

For a reader inspired by the electronics projects, an Arduino starter kit can be a way to begin exploring microcontroller projects. The profile does not recommend or evaluate a particular kit; check that any kit includes components compatible with your board and project, offers instructions suited to your experience, and is currently available.

What do the profile’s channel figures tell us?

At publication in July 2018, Make: reported that the channel was less than a year old, had five videos, and had fewer than 700 subscribers. Those figures describe the channel at that time only; they do not establish its current audience, video count, or activity. The article also highlighted three videos, a separate detail in the same publication-era account.

Why the profile is worth revisiting

The early Wicked Makers story is a useful example of a maker channel built around complementary skills and varied interests. Rather than limiting making to one craft, the profile showed how fabrication, fandom, and electronics could sit together in a couple’s creative practice.
