If you relied on PageLr, you need a replacement: PageLr says its website screenshot API permanently shut down on June 3, 2026, and that its endpoints, accounts, and stored data are no longer available. ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to consider for a hosted screenshot API: it removes known consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, and failed or unusable captures are not billed. Other currently documented options include ScreenshotOne, Urlbox, and Microlink.

What happened to PageLr?

PageLr’s official service notice says its website screenshot API was permanently shut down on June 3, 2026. The notice says the API endpoints, user accounts, and stored data are no longer available. If an existing integration still points to PageLr, plan to replace it; the notice does not describe a migration path or continued access.

Not every older thumbnail service has closed. Thumbalizr described a backend migration in an April 8, 2026 update, not a shutdown. Page2Images still publishes REST API documentation for screenshot generation. Those facts establish that documentation or a migration notice exists, not that either service meets a particular uptime or quality requirement.

Hosted website screenshot APIs to consider

These are services whose vendors currently document screenshot capture. They have not been independently tested here; verify availability, plan terms, and required features with each provider before moving a production workflow.

Service What its documentation describes What to verify
ScreenshotNeo Screenshot API and MCP server. A GET request can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. It removes known consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be disabled. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the result identified in response headers. Confirm the capture options, output type, and plan that fit your integration. All listed features are available on every plan.
ScreenshotOne Its API documentation describes URL screenshots and capture options. Its options documentation describes using image_width and image_height to constrain thumbnail dimensions while preserving aspect ratio. Check current documentation for page readiness and rendering options, and confirm live plan quotas and prices.
Urlbox Its documentation describes converting URLs and HTML into screenshots, PDFs, and other outputs, using render links or API requests. Check which current plan and features support your required third-party site captures, and verify current allowances and pricing.
Microlink Its screenshot page describes URL capture through an API, with a free tier and paid plans. Verify current quotas, prices, and the capture features needed for your workflow.
Page2Images Its REST API documentation describes URL screenshots, selectable output dimensions, and full-page capture. Documentation is not an independent uptime or service-quality assessment; verify that it is suitable for your use before relying on it.

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Beyond image and PDF capture, the documented options include full-page capture with lazy images loaded; CSS-selector element capture; dark mode; 12 device presets and custom viewports; retina scale; PDF paper size, margins, landscape, and page ranges; HTML/CSS-to-image; custom CSS and JavaScript; click-before-capture; hide selectors; waits for a selector, delay, or network idle; blocking ads, trackers, requests, or resource types; custom headers, cookies, user agent, and Authorization; timezone and geolocation; transparent backgrounds; image resizing; chosen cache TTL; signed links for public <img> tags; asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks; bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call; a usage API; and an OpenAPI spec. Its parameter names also work with those used by other screenshot APIs, which can ease migration. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for setup and parameters.

How to choose a replacement

Start with the job your old integration performed, then validate the replacement against representative pages. A thumbnail generator and a full-page auditing workflow may need different settings even if both accept a URL.

Anker USB-C Hub, 5-in-1 USB Hub for Laptops, 4K HDMI Multiport Adapter
  • 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
  • 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
  • Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
  • 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
  • Output: Check whether you need a fixed thumbnail size, viewport image, full-page capture, a specific image format, or PDF. ScreenshotOne documents width and height controls for thumbnail sizing; Page2Images documents selectable dimensions and full-page capture.
  • Rendering: Test pages with delayed content, lazy-loaded images, consent layers, and dynamic elements. Confirm the provider’s current wait, browser, and page-readiness controls rather than assuming equivalent behavior across APIs.
  • Integration: Compare request format, response type, authentication, error handling, and whether you need direct image responses, asynchronous jobs, or render links. Replacing an endpoint may also require changing parameter names or response handling.
  • Volume and cost: Estimate monthly successful captures, then compare current quotas, overages, request-rate limits, and billing rules. A nominally cheap plan can be a poor fit if failed attempts or burst traffic are treated differently.
  • Clean output: If consent banners or popups spoil thumbnails, check whether the service can handle them and whether the step is optional. ScreenshotNeo specifically documents removing known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture.
  • Failure accounting: Determine how bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, and cache hits are reported and billed. This matters for both cost forecasting and diagnosing missing images.

Migrate and test before switching production traffic

  1. Inventory PageLr usage. Find API calls, scheduled jobs, embed links, stored configuration, and downstream code that expects a particular image size, format, or status response. PageLr says its endpoints and accounts are unavailable, so do not build a plan around retrieving old account data.
  2. Choose representative URLs. Include ordinary pages, pages with consent prompts, slow or dynamic pages, and any target requiring full-page output. Use URLs you are authorized to capture.
  3. Map old behavior to new options. Record viewport or thumbnail dimensions, full-page behavior, output format, wait conditions, authentication, and any cropping assumptions. Set equivalent options explicitly where possible.
  4. Run both integrations on the same pages. Compare dimensions, whether important content is present, handling of errors, response format, and latency under your own conditions. No comparative reliability or performance test is established by the vendor documentation cited here.
  5. Review cost and limits. Check the provider’s live pricing and terms, including quotas, overages, and request rates. Vendor prices and plan allowances can change.
  6. Cut over with monitoring. Track successful captures, failures, response times, and billing indicators. Keep a route to revert configuration if the replacement’s outputs or error behavior do not match what your application expects.

Why Thumbalizr should not be called shut down

Thumbalizr’s April 8, 2026 update describes a backend move from Browshot to ScreenshotCenter. It says existing integrations, API calls, embed codes, and settings remain working through the migration. Based on that update, the accurate description is a backend migration, not a confirmed closure. Likewise, Page2Images’ published API docs describe a still-documented service, but documentation alone does not guarantee uptime or suitability.

Or skip the browser setup

Use ScreenshotNeo’s one-call API instead of setting up and maintaining a browser capture workflow. The request below saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe; replace the URL with the page you need to capture. Create an API key and see the ScreenshotNeo docs for parameters and response details.
