Keyboard labels vary: the Chromebook Show Windows key is the overview key with a rectangle and two lines. Laptop keyboards may require Fn with Print Screen.
How to capture a website on Windows
Capture a visible region, window or screen
- Open the webpage and position the content you want.
- Press Windows + Shift + S.
- Choose rectangle, freeform, window or full-screen mode from the Snipping Tool overlay.
- Select the area. The image is placed in the clipboard; select the notification to annotate or save it.
This is a screen capture, not a browser-aware rendering of everything below the fold. A full-screen snip includes only what is currently visible on the display.
Copy the entire display immediately
Press Print Screen to place a static image of the entire screen in the clipboard. Paste it into an image editor, document or chat, then save it in the format you need. If your keyboard has a separate screenshot key or requires Fn, use that hardware combination instead.

When Windows shortcuts are the wrong tool
Use a browser full-page feature when the requirement is a long article, landing page or dashboard that extends beyond the viewport. Screen snips cannot automatically scroll through the page, and stitching multiple captures can introduce gaps or repeated sections.
Firefox: the clearest built-in full-page shortcut
Windows and Linux
- Open the target page in Firefox.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + S.
- Choose the capture mode for a region, the visible page or the full page.
- For a complete scrollable image, select Save full page in the upper-right corner.
- Save the resulting image to your chosen location.
macOS
On a Mac, press Command + Shift + S, then follow the same Firefox Screenshot choices. The full-page option renders content below the viewport into one image rather than limiting the result to the currently visible screen.
What Firefox captures
Firefox Screenshot is browser-native and can select a region, save the visible page or save the complete page. It is therefore the most direct documented shortcut when “screenshot the website” means the entire scrollable document. Very long pages can produce large image files; allow the capture to finish before closing the tab.
Chromebook shortcuts
Entire screen
Press Ctrl + Show Windows. ChromeOS captures the complete display. The screenshot normally appears in the device’s screenshot location and can also be opened from the notification.

Additional screenshot controls
Press Ctrl + Shift + Show Windows to open additional screenshot features when your ChromeOS build provides them. Device configuration and ChromeOS version can change the available controls, so follow the on-screen labels.
These shortcuts capture the display or a selected display region. They do not, by themselves, guarantee a full scrollable webpage image.
What Chrome’s shortcuts actually do
Chrome’s documented keyboard combinations open developer tools rather than directly saving a verified full-page screenshot:
- Windows/Linux: Ctrl + Shift + C, Ctrl + Shift + J or Ctrl + Shift + I.
- macOS: Command + Option + C, Command + Option + J or Command + Option + I.
- Command Menu: Ctrl + Shift + P on Windows/Linux or Command + Shift + P on Mac.
Because the documented material does not state a dedicated Chrome full-page screenshot keystroke, do not rely on an unverified “Chrome full-page shortcut.” If you need a developer-tools workflow, open DevTools with the first set of shortcuts and use the Command Menu to search available commands in your installed release. Command names and availability can vary by version.

Why a full-page capture can differ from a screen snip
- Scope: a screen snip records pixels currently displayed; a full-page capture includes content below the fold.
- Dynamic content: lazy-loaded images, carousels and scripts may change while a long page is rendered.
- Overlays: cookie dialogs, newsletter forms and chat bubbles can cover content in a normal browser capture.
- File size: a long PNG can be substantially larger than a viewport image. JPEG or WebP may be more practical when your workflow supports those formats.
- Access restrictions: bot checks, authentication walls and pages that fail to load cannot be made complete by a keyboard shortcut.
For evidence or bug reports, note the URL, browser, operating-system version and whether the result is a visible-screen image or a full-page render. This makes differences reproducible when a page changes.

The shortcut does nothing
Check that the browser or operating system has focus, then try the alternate key labels (Fn, PrtSc or the Chromebook Show Windows key). Keyboard layouts, accessibility settings, remote-desktop software and vendor utilities can intercept combinations.
The result is only the visible viewport
That is expected from Snipping Tool, Print Screen and Chromebook screen capture. Switch to Firefox Screenshot and choose Save full page when you need content below the fold.

A page is cut off or missing images
Wait for the page to finish loading, scroll through lazy content once, and retry. Dynamic pages may continue changing while a full-page image is assembled. For automated work, use an explicit selector wait, delay or network-idle wait and enable full-page capture.
A popup hides the content

- Use a full-page browser capture for a one-off visual check; use an API for scheduled audits, many URLs or consistent viewport settings.
- Record viewport, device preset, color scheme, timezone and geolocation when comparing captures over time.
- Wait for a stable selector or network idle rather than relying only on a fixed delay.
- Use bulk capture for up to 100 URLs per call and the usage API to monitor consumption.
- Keep API keys private; pass them through environment variables or a server-side request rather than exposing them in public page code.
