Yes—Pascal can be used to build a web backend. A 2025 Hackaday article describes a custom backend for Photronic Arts, a developer’s personal-business web store, built with FreePascal and the Lazarus IDE. The store’s frontend is described as HTML, not Pascal. It is an example of Pascal tools being used for a real store, not evidence that developers broadly should switch to Pascal.
What the Pascal web-store example actually shows
In “Web Development In… Pascal?”, published October 28, 2025, Tyler August reports on a custom backend for Photronic Arts. The backend was built in FreePascal using the Lazarus IDE. August’s article describes the frontend as HTML; it does not say that the frontend is written in Pascal. Read the Hackaday article.
The article also links to an hour-long tutorial by the developer and says the source code is available on request. The tutorial’s technical details and the code were not independently verified here, so the project’s framework, database, hosting, deployment process, and security controls are not established.
Does this mean Pascal is a practical choice for web development?
It shows that Pascal tooling can be used to create a custom web-store backend. It does not establish how common Pascal is in web development or whether it is the right choice for a particular production system. Hackaday author Tyler August frames the example as a discovery that FreePascal has tools for this kind of work—not a call for developers to switch to Pascal.

For a project decision, assess the actual requirements rather than treating one example as a general recommendation. The Hackaday article does not provide comparative performance or security results.
