Tom’s Guide reported on October 5, 2026, that HP was offering an OMEN 35L gaming desktop for $2,799, a claimed $2,200 below a $4,999 reference price. That is a dated deal report—not confirmation that the offer is still live. Check HP’s current listing and the exact configuration before treating the price or savings as current.
What the reported OMEN 35L deal included
Tom’s Guide described a system with an AMD Ryzen 7 processor, an RTX 5080 with 16GB of GDDR7, 32GB of memory, and a 2TB SSD. Its October 5, 2026 article placed HP’s reported $2,799 price near Amazon’s October Prime Day period; it did not say Amazon was selling the PC or that HP’s offer was an Amazon Prime Day deal. Read Tom’s Guide’s dated report.
Tom’s Hardware also reported a $2,799 price and $2,200 claimed discount for an OMEN system with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 5080, describing the reduction as 44%. This corroborates that the deal was reported, but it does not establish that the offer remains available or that both articles refer to an identical SKU. See Tom’s Hardware’s report.
Check the configuration before comparing prices
HP’s official US shop has an indexed OMEN 35L GT16-0285t listing with an RTX 5080, Core Ultra 9 processor, 64GB of RAM, and a 2TB SSD. Those specifications differ from the Ryzen 7 and 32GB configuration described in Tom’s Guide’s deal report. Do not assume the official indexed product page is the exact sale SKU, or combine specifications from the two listings into one configuration. Check HP’s OMEN 35L listing.

HP Support lists an RTX 5080 with 16GB of GDDR7 as a graphics option for the OMEN 35L GT16 series. That supports the GPU’s availability in the product family, but does not identify the exact components in the reported sale machine. See HP’s GT16-series specifications.
How to decide whether the deal is worthwhile
A large markdown against a reference price is not enough to establish value. Before buying, compare the exact SKU and current out-the-door price with other RTX 5080 prebuilts, and check the practical terms that affect ownership.

- Match the hardware: Confirm the processor model, GPU, memory capacity, and SSD size on the purchase page. Similar product names do not guarantee identical configurations.
- Confirm the live total: Recheck the price, stock, seller, shipping, and any applicable taxes at checkout. The cited $2,799 offer is a report from October 5, 2026, not a verified current price.
- Review warranty and returns: Read the terms for the exact seller and SKU rather than assuming they match another OMEN 35L listing.
- Consider upgradeability: Check the specific system’s available memory and storage expansion options if you expect to upgrade it later.
- Compare equivalent systems: Use the same GPU class and similar CPU, memory, and storage when comparing competing prebuilts. A lower price on a materially different configuration is not a like-for-like comparison.
HP says prices shown with a strikethrough are MSRPs, and that daily or limited-time deals are excluded from its price protection or matching. A claimed saving versus MSRP therefore should not be treated as proof that the PC is cheaper than comparable systems currently available.
