Error 1628505091 means your attempt to join a WARDOGS server timed out; it does not identify one specific cause. Check whether other players are affected and whether your game needs an update before changing Windows or network settings. The code alone does not prove a ban.
What WARDOGS error 1628505091 tells you
Players may see wording such as “Failed to connect to the server in a reasonable time,” “JOIN TIMED OUT,” or “Failed To Connect to Server in Time.” These messages indicate a failed server-join attempt. NerdsChalk reports that the code has no public, official definition, so it cannot tell you whether the cause is server availability or load, one particular server, your installed client, or the route between your network and the game service.
A timeout by itself is not evidence that your account is banned. If the game displays a separate, explicit ban, suspension, or access-denied notice, treat that notice as a different issue.

Check the scope before changing anything
First compare three things: whether the problem affects other players or servers, whether your client is current, and whether the same join works over a different connection. These checks help distinguish a possible shared service issue from a problem isolated to one listing, your client, or your connection.

- Many players or servers: A shared service issue is plausible. Look for current WARDOGS announcements and ask whether other players can join. If several are affected, wait for an official update rather than changing Windows settings.
- One server or region: Try one other listing; the original server may be the only one you cannot reach. Server-browser counts can be stale, so do not treat them as proof of availability.
- Your client may be out of date: Check for a pending game update before investigating local network settings.
- The problem appears limited to your connection: Test another online service, then try one alternate connection if practical. A successful test on another connection points toward a network route or local connection issue, but does not prove which change will fix it.
Try these low-risk steps in order
- Check current announcements and player reports. Look at official WARDOGS or Team17 updates and see whether other players report join failures. Current server health was not verified in the available evidence, so a past incident cannot establish whether the service is healthy now.
- Update the game and restart it. Install any pending WARDOGS update, then launch the game again. Team17 Support said on September 10, 2026, that it had made fixes on its side for login issues and queues. A September 12 guide reported Launch Stability Hotfix #1 and recommended restarting to receive the client update. Those are historical reports, not confirmation that no later update or issue exists.
- Try one other server or region. Refresh the server browser once, choose another listing, and make a single join attempt. Repeatedly trying the same failing server is unlikely to identify the cause.
- Restart Steam completely. Exit WARDOGS, choose Steam → Exit, reopen Steam, and try joining again.
- Test whether the connection path matters. If the issue still seems specific to you, temporarily disable a VPN or proxy, or test once using a mobile hotspot if practical. If the alternate connection works, the difference narrows the issue to the connection path or local network; it does not establish a particular required fix.
- Verify the game files if the issue persists only on your PC or an update seems incomplete. In Steam, open the game’s Properties and use the installed-files option to verify the files. This can address missing or corrupted client files; it cannot add server capacity or repair a service outage.
- Contact support if the failure remains isolated. Include the complete error text and code, the time it occurred, your selected region and server, a screenshot, and which alternate-server or alternate-network checks you tried.
Why a past login incident does not establish today’s status
On September 10, 2026, several WARDOGS players reported login trouble, queues, and server-join failures on Steam. Team17 Support replied that day: “We’ve now made fixes on our side and these issues should now be resolved.” This is evidence of a historical response to that incident, not confirmation of WARDOGS service health on October 7, 2026, or on the date you encounter the error. Check current official announcements before concluding that an older fix applies.
When not to use more invasive fixes
Do not start with a game reinstall, Windows network reset, firewall edits, or anti-cheat repair for a timeout that appears to affect multiple players or servers. Those actions change your local setup without addressing a shared service problem. Consider more disruptive local troubleshooting only when the checks point to a problem specific to your PC and you have a separate reason to suspect that component.
