To connect Walter Writes AI to Claude Code, add Walter’s hosted MCP endpoint as an HTTP server, authenticate with your Walter account in the browser, then confirm the connection in Claude Code’s /mcp panel. Choose local, user, or project scope according to where you want the configuration available.

Before you begin

You need Claude Code and access to a Walter Writes AI account. Walter’s documented endpoint is https://mcp-server.walterwrites.ai/mcp; the vendor describes the integration as providing text humanization and AI detection inside Claude Code. That is Walter’s description of its capabilities, not an independent assessment of detection accuracy or writing quality. See Walter’s Claude Code MCP setup instructions.

Add Walter as a remote HTTP MCP server

Open a terminal where Claude Code’s claude command is available and run Walter’s documented command:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
claude mcp add walter-writes https://mcp-server.walterwrites.ai/mcp -t http

The -t http option selects HTTP transport. Claude Code’s MCP reference also documents the longer spelling, --transport http. The equivalent command using that spelling is:

claude mcp add walter-writes https://mcp-server.walterwrites.ai/mcp --transport http

Use one form, not both; they specify the same transport. Claude Code recommends HTTP for remote MCP servers. The exact command and transport guidance are documented in Walter’s setup page and the Claude Code MCP reference mirror.

Choose where the configuration applies

Scope determines where Claude Code makes the server configuration available. Walter’s short command uses Claude Code’s default, which its reference documents as local scope. Add an explicit scope option if you need a different reach:

Scope When to use it Team and trust considerations
local (default) Keep the server configuration limited to the current project for your own use. It is not a shared repository configuration.
user Make the configuration available to the same user across projects. It follows that user rather than being a project-level team setting.
project Configure the repository so its project configuration can be shared with teammates. Project configuration may be stored in .mcp.json. Project servers are subject to approval; review the server and trust its source before connecting.

For example, to configure user scope, run:

claude mcp add walter-writes https://mcp-server.walterwrites.ai/mcp -t http --scope user

For a repository-level configuration, run this from the relevant project directory:

claude mcp add walter-writes https://mcp-server.walterwrites.ai/mcp -t http --scope project

A shared server definition does not, by itself, mean that credentials or account access are shared. Each teammate should review and approve the project server as prompted. Scope behavior and approval details are described in the Claude Code MCP reference; CLI defaults can change, so check the documentation for your installed Claude Code version if the behavior differs.

Authenticate with Walter

  1. Launch Claude Code after adding the server.
  2. Enter /mcp to open the MCP panel.
  3. Select walter-writes, then choose Authenticate.
  4. Complete sign-in to your Walter Writes AI account in the browser window.
  5. Return to Claude Code and check the server’s status in the MCP panel.

This browser-based sign-in flow is the one Walter documents in its Claude Code setup instructions. Adding a server registers its configuration; it does not by itself confirm successful authentication or a working connection.

Verify the connection or troubleshoot a failure

Look in /mcp for walter-writes and confirm Claude Code reports it as connected and authenticated. Claude Code’s documented status indicators distinguish a connected server from one that needs authentication or has a failed connection.

If you need to inspect the configuration from a terminal, Claude Code documents these commands:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • claude mcp list lists configured MCP servers.
  • claude mcp get walter-writes shows details for this server.

If sign-in completes but the status still shows a failure, use the status detail to guide the next check and consult the current Walter setup instructions and official Claude Code MCP quickstart. Do not treat a successful add command as proof that the server is connected.

What the setup does—and does not—establish

Walter says its connector brings text humanization and AI detection into Claude Code. The setup documentation establishes how to configure and authenticate the connector; it does not establish comparative performance, guaranteed detection, or particular Walter account-plan limits.
