There is no universal winner. Choose Vue if its documented, incrementally adoptable path and conventions fit your team; choose React if your team’s skills, integrations, or preferred application framework point that way. For a new React website, plan to choose a framework such as React Router or Next.js—not just React in isolation. Compare the complete application paths against what you need to build and maintain.
Vue and React are different kinds of choices
Both can add interactive features to an existing website and can be used to build full applications. Vue’s official guide describes a range from enhancing static HTML to single-page applications, server-side rendering, and static generation. React also supports gradual adoption, but its current documentation recommends starting a new app with a framework. That makes the practical comparison less “which core package is better?” and more “which application approach suits this project?”
Vue describes itself as a framework and documents a path using Composition API with Single-File Components for full applications. For simpler use or projects without build tools, its guide points to Options API. React’s documentation names React Router and Next.js among framework choices for a new React app; building from scratch means choosing additional tools and patterns, including routing and data fetching. Read the Vue introduction, React installation guidance, and React’s app-creation guide before committing.
Which framework fits your website?
| Project situation | Lean toward Vue when… | Lean toward React when… |
|---|---|---|
| Adding features to an existing site | You value Vue’s documented path from enhancing static HTML to a full application. | You want to introduce React gradually into an existing page or project. |
| Starting a new application | Your team prefers Vue’s documented application approach, including Composition API and Single-File Components for full apps. | You want to use a framework recommended by React’s documentation, such as React Router or Next.js. |
| Team skills and conventions | Your developers already know Vue or prefer its application style. | Your developers already know React or the libraries and integration points you need fit its ecosystem. |
| Hiring and existing code | Your organization’s codebase, partners, or local candidates favor Vue. | Your codebase, partners, or local hiring market favor React. |
| Rendering and performance | A Vue implementation meets your measured requirements for the actual workload. | A React framework and rendering model meet your measured requirements more effectively. |
| Future native apps | The decision is primarily about the website and Vue’s web options meet the roadmap. | React Native and Expo may be relevant if the team also plans native apps; that is a separate benefit from choosing React for a website. |
When both are viable, use the team’s ability to support the whole application path as the default tie-breaker. If one technical requirement is uncertain—server rendering, a specialized data grid, or a demanding interaction, for example—prototype that slice in the likely candidates. Compare implementation effort and measurements in representative browsers before deciding; the result depends on your project, not on a universal framework ranking.

What performance comparisons can—and cannot—tell you
Neither framework is simply “faster” in every website. Vue’s FAQ says Vue 3 performs well in synthetic stress tests, while warning that such tests emphasize raw rendering under dedicated optimizations and may not represent real-world performance. It recommends auditing the actual website for page-load performance.
Vercel’s vendor-authored 2026 comparison also emphasizes that architecture and rendering strategy affect perceived speed and summarizes benchmark results as relatively close. Those results do not establish which framework will be faster for your application. A useful comparison names the tested versions, app, build settings, and measured outcome. Evaluate the experience your users will encounter—including loading and interaction—not a headline benchmark alone.

How much should adoption figures influence the choice?
Vercel’s 2026 comparison reports results from the JetBrains Developer Ecosystem Survey 2024: React usage at 57% and Vue usage at 32% among 23,262 respondents. These are survey usage figures reported secondarily by Vercel, not a current market-share measurement or direct evidence of hiring availability in your location. Use local job listings, candidate experience, and your organization’s existing code as more relevant hiring signals.
Version and browser-support context
Version information changes. As checked on October 3, 2026, Vue’s FAQ identifies Vue 3 as its current major version and says Vue 2 reached end of life on December 31, 2023; it also says Vue 3 does not support Internet Explorer 11. React’s version page lists React 19.3 as the latest release, dated September 9, 2026. Check the Vue FAQ and React versions page for updates before starting a project.
