A VPN can lower your Overwatch latency only in a specific case: when it routes your traffic around a poor path used by your internet provider. It can also add distance and delay, so there is no evidence here to name five services as verified low-ping winners. Treat the options below as candidates to test against your normal connection—not as a ranked performance list.
First, check what kind of network problem you have
Lag is not always a slow-download problem. Blizzard describes LAT as a smoothed estimate of the time between a player command and the server’s response. Its support article says interpolation delay is normally around 50–60 ms; latency that persistently exceeds interpolation delay, or continuing packet loss, is a reason to investigate the connection. Blizzard’s guide to diagnosing Overwatch network problems also explains how to read the in-game Netgraph.
The Netgraph can show minimum, average, and maximum values. Blizzard says orange highlighted bars indicate latency above interpolation delay. Use these indicators to identify whether the problem is high or unstable latency, packet loss, or something else before changing your route with a VPN.

The available evidence does not establish a repeatable, independent comparison of five VPNs for Overwatch latency. These are therefore services to consider testing, not five proven winners. The provider-specific statements below describe vendor guidance or marketing; they do not show that a service will improve your connection.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Service | What the available source says | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| ExpressVPN | Its Overwatch 2 page markets a nearby-server approach that may bypass routing problems. | That the approach lowers your LAT, prevents packet loss, or outperforms another VPN. The claim is from the provider, not an independent test. |
| NordVPN | Its Windows slow-internet support guidance warns that connecting to a distant country can increase ping. | Overwatch-specific latency results or a ranking against other services. |
| Proton VPN | No Overwatch-specific performance result or provider claim is established by the available sources. | That it reduces ping or is faster for Overwatch than the other candidates. |
| Private Internet Access | No Overwatch-specific performance result or provider claim is established by the available sources. | That it reduces ping or is faster for Overwatch than the other candidates. |
| CyberGhost | No Overwatch-specific performance result or provider claim is established by the available sources. | That it reduces ping or is faster for Overwatch than the other candidates. |
Provider server counts, general speed claims, and download-speed tests are not substitutes for measured Overwatch LAT, packet loss, and stability. The available sources also do not support a current comparison of plans, prices, refund terms, or platform availability, so choose based on what you can verify for your device and region rather than assumed gaming performance.
When a VPN might help—and when it may make things worse
A VPN changes the route your traffic takes. If your provider’s usual route to the game server is problematic, a VPN endpoint might lead to a better path. But traffic then travels through the VPN server as well, which can add another leg to the connection. A nearby endpoint is generally a more sensible test than a distant one, especially if it is near the relevant game region.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Blizzard’s older Overwatch forum guide says a VPN may offer a more optimized path in some situations, but it also cautions that it may not work better and says Blizzard does not support troubleshooting VPN services. Read that as dated, conditional guidance—not a current Blizzard recommendation. Blizzard forum guide: maximizing system performance for Overwatch on PC.
Providers acknowledge the downside too. NordVPN warns that a distant country can increase ping. ExpressVPN’s nearby-server statement is also vendor marketing, not independent evidence.

Try a VPN without mistaking a good session for proof
- Record a baseline. Play on your usual connection and note Netgraph minimum, average, and maximum latency, packet-loss symptoms, and whether the connection feels stable. Repeat across several sessions rather than relying on one match.
- Fix obvious local issues first. Blizzard recommends closing other programs that use the internet, power-cycling the modem, and trying a direct wired connection. It specifically notes that Wi-Fi can cause difficulties in online games. See Blizzard’s internet-connection optimization steps.
- Test one nearby VPN endpoint. Choose an endpoint geographically close to you and, where practical, the game region you use. Avoid assuming that a faraway location is better just because it is available.
- Repeat the same measurements. Compare LAT, packet loss, and stability over multiple sessions with the baseline. Keep other conditions as consistent as practical, including device, connection type, and game region.
- Keep it only if the improvement holds. If latency or packet loss worsens, disconnect and return to the normal route. If the problem continues without a VPN after basic troubleshooting, Blizzard advises contacting your internet provider.
What to do if the problem persists
If Netgraph points to persistent latency above interpolation delay or recurring packet loss, a VPN is not a substitute for troubleshooting the connection. Follow Blizzard’s basic steps, then contact your ISP if the issue remains. Blizzard’s current support guidance focuses on diagnosing network problems and optimizing the connection; it does not recommend a VPN as a general fix.
