For a 24/7 YouTube playlist that tops out at 1080p, vMix HD appears sufficient: the official comparison lists both HD and 4K with streaming and Playlist, while HD supports up to 1920 × 1080. Choose vMix 4K if you need output up to 4096 × 2160 or one of its additional production features—not simply because your channel runs continuously. Neither edition, by itself, provides time-of-day scheduling or guarantees an uninterrupted stream.

Choose HD for a straightforward 1080p loop
If your source videos and intended YouTube output are 1080p or lower, and you need basic playback rather than a more involved live production, HD has the relevant listed capabilities. Buying 4K does not make a 1080p source into genuine 4K content.

Choose 4K when the production needs it
The 4K license is the relevant choice if you need 4K output or features that HD does not list. vMix groups 4K support, separate recording of each camera, two simultaneous fullscreen or external outputs, one-camera Instant Replay, PTZ control, and up to four vMix Call callers among the 4K, Pro, and Max editions. Check the edition guide for the exact feature allocation before buying.

For a single pre-recorded playlist, most of those production features may not matter. Compare the feature you actually need, not just the edition name.
What a 24/7 playlist does—and does not—mean in vMix
vMix’s Playlist can play videos back-to-back in a constant loop. Video List can also load a set of files as one input, play them consecutively, loop or randomize playback, and avoid loading every file at once—a useful distinction when a large playlist could consume system resources.

This supports continuous playback, but it is not the same as a broadcast scheduler. vMix’s Knowledge Base says the software is primarily designed for single live events and does not support time-of-day scheduling. If you need a specific program to begin at a particular clock time, plan a separate scheduling workflow; a repeating playlist alone does not provide that capability.

- Prepare the media. Organize the videos you have permission to stream. Decide whether they should repeat in a fixed order or be randomized, and use Playlist or Video List accordingly.
- Choose the output target. For a channel capped at 1080p, set the production for no more than 1920 × 1080. Use 4K only if the actual production and delivery need it and your vMix edition supports it.
- Create or configure the YouTube live stream. vMix documents two routes: configure the stream in YouTube Studio (you may schedule it there) and enter its stream key in vMix, or use vMix’s YouTube Live Stream Now option to create the stream from vMix. Follow the current vMix YouTube Live setup guide for the relevant route.
- Load and start playback. Add the prepared files to the chosen playlist input, confirm order and loop or random behavior, then start the stream and verify that YouTube is receiving the intended picture and audio.
- Plan for the long run. Keep the computer, vMix, media storage, and network connection running for the duration. A successful initial start is not a guarantee of continuous operation or automatic recovery.

Archive and backup planning for a continuous broadcast
Do not assume a single 24/7 broadcast will become a complete YouTube archive. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube also says it automatically archives streams at 1440p and 2160p. For a continuous channel, decide deliberately whether to segment broadcasts and how to preserve a local recording; YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as backup. Local storage is optional for playback, useful for backup
An SSD is not established as a requirement just to stream a playlist. vMix lists SSD storage among its recommended specifications, and a local archive needs appropriate storage, but the sources do not specify a drive capacity, model, endurance rating, or performance benchmark. Choose capacity based on recording duration, resolution, and retention needs.

Check the PC before choosing a license
The license determines supported features and maximum resolution; it does not guarantee that a particular computer can sustain your full workload. vMix lists these minimum hardware requirements: Windows 10/11, a 2 GHz quad-core processor, 4 GB of memory, a dedicated DirectX 10.1-compatible graphics card, and a 1920 × 1080 display. Its recommended specifications include an Intel Core i7 at 3 GHz or higher, 8 GB RAM, an SSD, dedicated Nvidia graphics with 2 GB or more memory, and a 1920 × 1080 display. Actual performance depends on inputs, outputs, resolution, and recording. Consult the current vMix hardware requirements rather than treating the minimum as a 24/7 performance guarantee.

Common problems and what to check
- The playlist ends instead of repeating: Check the Playlist or Video List loop setting and confirm the intended files are in the active input.
- A program does not start at a chosen time: vMix does not provide the time-of-day scheduling described in the Knowledge Base. Use a separate scheduling process or start the stream manually as appropriate.
- YouTube does not receive the vMix output: Confirm that the stream is configured in YouTube Studio or created through vMix Live Stream Now, and that the correct stream key is entered. Recheck the setup instructions at vMix’s YouTube guide.
- The full broadcast is missing from archives: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Plan shorter segments and/or a local recording rather than relying on one continuous YouTube archive.
- The computer struggles during operation: Review resolution, inputs, outputs, and recording load against the listed hardware requirements. Minimum specifications are not a promise of performance for every workload.
- You expected an HD license to output 4K: HD’s listed maximum is 1920 × 1080. A 4K output requirement calls for the 4K edition or an edition above it that includes 4K.
