Press INPUT on your VIZIO remote, highlight the HDMI input used by your device, then press OK. Match the number on the TV’s HDMI port—for example, HDMI-2—to the HDMI source selected on screen.
Change the HDMI input with your VIZIO remote
- Turn on the TV and the device connected to it by HDMI.
- Press INPUT on the VIZIO remote to open the input menu.
- Use the navigation controls to highlight the HDMI input that matches the port where the device is plugged in. The port number is printed beside the HDMI socket on the TV.
- Press OK to select it. On some remotes, you can instead press INPUT repeatedly to cycle through choices and release the button when the desired input is highlighted.
For example, if the cable is plugged into the TV’s HDMI-2 port, select HDMI-2—not HDMI-1. The menu wording and available input choices depend on the TV model. VIZIO’s V5-Series manual describes the INPUT-menu method for that series.
If your remote has no INPUT button or the menu is different
VIZIO menus and remotes vary by generation, so an alternate path may apply to your set. An older VIZIO manual, for example, directs users to MENU > Settings > Input Source, then to the desired input. Treat that as a model-specific route, not a universal menu path. The older manual shows this legacy layout.
If neither route matches what you see, look up the manual for your exact TV model. You can find the model number on the TV’s label or in its system information.

Change the input without the remote
Use the TV’s physical INPUT button
Some VIZIO models have an INPUT button on the TV itself that cycles through sources. Button placement and availability vary. The VIZIO V-Series documentation describes this option for supported sets.
Use the VIZIO mobile app
For supported TVs and software versions, the VIZIO SmartCast Mobile app can also change the source: open the app, select the TV from the device list, tap Input, then choose the HDMI source. The app route and controls may not be available on every model; see the V-Series documentation for the model-specific instructions.

Consider a compatible replacement remote
If the TV’s button and app are not options, verify that any replacement remote is compatible with your exact TV model before buying. VIZIO’s XRT140R product page lists compatibility with VIZIO Smart TVs and Onn powered by VIZIO Smart TVs, but the listing showed the product out of stock when reviewed.

If HDMI is missing or the screen says there is no signal
- Check which HDMI port the cable is plugged into, then select that same numbered input on the TV.
- If the input is not listed or cannot be selected, consult the manual for your exact model. Port counts, labels, and menu structures differ across VIZIO generations.
- If the picture remains absent after the input and port match, changing inputs alone may not resolve the connection problem. Use the model-specific support instructions for the TV and connected device.
These checks confirm the input selection; they do not establish a universal fix for a blank or no-signal screen.
