As of October 4, 2026, the vivo V80 is announced but has not yet launched in India: its scheduled launch is October 6, and its price has not been revealed. On paper, it adds a larger battery, a higher advertised display refresh rate and a newer Android generation over the V70. The V70 is the more assessable choice today because it has been reviewed; the V80’s real-world battery, camera and performance results are not yet established.
At a glance: what changes from the V70 to the V80?
The core specifications look similar in some areas and different in others. Both phones are listed with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor, 90W charging and rear camera resolutions of 50MP main, 50MP telephoto and 8MP ultra-wide. The V80’s announced headline changes are its 7,200mAh battery, up-to-144Hz display and Android 17-based OriginOS 7.

Is the V80’s bigger battery a meaningful upgrade?
The V80’s listed capacity is 7,200mAh, compared with 6,500mAh for the V70, while both are listed with 90W charging. That is a larger stated capacity, not proof of longer battery life or faster charging in everyday use. No independent V80 battery test is available in the evidence here, and battery endurance also depends on factors such as display use and workload.
There is a hands-on assessment for the V70: Digital Camera World described its battery life as very good. That observation applies to the reviewer’s V70, not to a comparison test against the V80. If battery life is your deciding factor, wait for V80 testing rather than treating capacity alone as a verdict.

What does the V80’s 144Hz display claim mean?
The two phones have similarly sized 6.59-inch displays, but the advertised maximum refresh rate rises from up to 120Hz on the V70 to up to 144Hz on the V80. India Today reports that the V80’s full 144Hz support is limited to selected applications and that actual performance can vary. The figure therefore should not be read as a guarantee that every app or screen activity runs at 144Hz.
Both are described as high-resolution 1.5K-class displays in the product materials; vivo lists the V70 resolution as 2750 × 1260. The V80’s supplied official parameter listing does not state a pixel resolution, so a precise resolution-to-resolution comparison is not established here.

Are the V80 cameras better than the V70 cameras?
The headline rear-camera resolutions are similar, but megapixel counts do not establish that the phones use identical sensors, lenses, image processing or produce the same quality. The V80’s official material identifies its 50MP telephoto as a night telephoto and advertises 4K/60fps video. The V70’s listed video options include 4K, 1080p and 720p.
Digital Camera World’s V70 review praised its main and telephoto cameras and found the ultra-wide weaker. That is useful context for the V70, but it does not show whether the V80 improves on those results. No hands-on V80 review or direct V80-versus-V70 camera test is established here; wait for sample images and testing if camera quality is central to your choice.

How do software and update promises compare?
The V70 is listed in surfaced materials with Android 16 and OriginOS 6; the V80 is advertised with Android 17 and OriginOS 7. vivo’s V80 overview states up to six years of security updates. Digital Camera World reports that vivo promises the V70 four OS upgrades and six years of security updates, but the applicability of that promise to the specific India configuration should be verified with vivo. Treat the V80 terms as an announced promise and check the final India-market wording at launch.
Are either phones water-resistant?
Both models are listed with IP68 and IP69 ratings, but those ratings should not be taken to mean either phone is waterproof. vivo says the V70’s IP68 laboratory condition involves static fresh water up to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes under stated conditions, and describes a specified hot-water-jet test for IP69. It also warns that resistance to splashes, water and dust can diminish with daily wear and advises against immersion or exposure to seawater, beverages or other liquids. Follow the manufacturer’s care guidance rather than relying on the rating after damage or wear.

Which phone should you choose?
Wait for the V80 if
- You want the larger stated battery and are willing to wait for independent endurance results.
- The higher advertised refresh-rate ceiling matters to you, with the understanding that 144Hz is limited to selected apps.
- You prefer the newer announced Android and OriginOS generation and want to check the final update terms.
Consider the V70 if
- You can get it at a compelling current selling price and do not need the V80’s announced changes.
- You prefer to make a decision using an existing hands-on review rather than pre-launch specifications alone.
The V80’s India price had not been announced in India Today’s September 22 report, and no live retail price comparison is established here. A value-for-money winner cannot be named until the V80 price and actual availability are known. The V80’s package contents and exact India storage configurations were also not confirmed in the available materials, so check those details with vivo or the retailer before buying.
