Vivaldi 7.5 added two desktop browser features: named, color-coded Tab Stacks and a setting for using a custom DNS provider with DNS over HTTPS (DoH). Vivaldi announced the release on July 3, 2025; it is a historical release, not the current version. The release notes explain how to color a stack, but do not provide detailed DoH setup steps or name a default provider.
What changed in Vivaldi 7.5?
The update focused on making groups of tabs easier to distinguish and adding browser-level DNS configuration. Vivaldi describes Tab Stacks as a way to group related tabs. In version 7.5, each stack can have a name and a custom color. The release changelog also lists a DNS-over-HTTPS preference setting and support for defining a custom DNS provider for the browser.
Vivaldi’s stated purpose for stack names and colors is to help users recognize groups such as work projects or travel planning. That is the intended benefit, not a measured usability result.
How to name and color a Tab Stack
- Find the Tab Stack you want to change.
- Right-click the stack and choose Edit Stack.
- In the Edit Tab Stack dialog, enter a name and choose a color, then apply the changes.
The documented release instructions identify the right-click menu and dialog, but do not specify further controls or a platform-specific path. Vivaldi lists both colored stacks and the Edit Stack dialog as new features in the 7.5 changelog.

What Vivaldi says about DNS over HTTPS
Vivaldi 7.5 adds a DNS-over-HTTPS preference setting and lets users define a custom DNS provider for the browser. DoH sends DNS lookups through HTTPS rather than as ordinary unencrypted DNS requests. In practical terms, the release material establishes a browser-specific configuration feature; it does not establish that all browsing traffic is encrypted by this setting.
The release announcement and changelog do not name providers, state a default, give exact setting labels or configuration steps, or specify platform availability. They also do not report a measured privacy outcome. Do not treat DoH by itself as anonymity or assume it hides activity from every party. Consult current Vivaldi documentation for configuration details before changing DNS settings.

Follow-up fixes to the 7.5 release
Vivaldi issued maintenance updates after the initial release. These notes describe fixes in those dated updates and should not be read as a statement of the browser’s current security status.
- July 9, 2025: Vivaldi said a fix addressed stack color not appearing on a newly added tab.
- July 16, 2025: The update included Chromium 138.0.7204.162, which Vivaldi said included a fix for CVE-2025-6558, involving incorrect validation of untrusted input in ANGLE and GPU. The note also lists fixes for dragging links into a Tab Stack and onto the tab bar.
- September 12, 2025: A later 7.5 update note identifies Chromium 138.0.7204.261 and CVE-2025-10200.
Is Vivaldi 7.5 still current?
No. Version 7.5 is a July 2025 desktop release, and Vivaldi’s release index lists later versions. Anyone installing or updating Vivaldi should use the release channel and version offered by Vivaldi now, rather than treating the 7.5 announcement or its dated security notes as current guidance.
