Use the Visualping Chrome extension to start monitoring from a page you’re viewing or to run checks in your own browser session. Use the web app when you prefer to create and manage cloud monitors from a dashboard. The extension can also create cloud monitors, so the main choice is often where you set up a monitor and whether it runs locally or in the cloud—not whether one interface can monitor pages and the other cannot.
Visualping extension vs. web app at a glance
| Option | Where checks run | Best for | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chrome extension, local monitoring | Your computer, using browser resources and session | Quick checks and pages that depend on your signed-in or personalized browser session | Chrome must stay open, and alerts are browser-based. |
| Chrome extension, cloud monitoring | Visualping’s servers | Creating a monitor while viewing a page, then having checks continue with your computer off | Check frequency and alert channels depend on your plan. |
| Web app, cloud monitoring | Visualping’s servers | Creating and managing monitors centrally in the dashboard | The web app is not required to create cloud monitors; the extension can create them too. |
Visualping describes cloud monitoring as available through either its extension or web app. The clearest functional difference is that the extension also supports local monitoring.
Choose based on where and how checks should run
Choose local monitoring for a browser-specific session
Local checks use the browser session on your machine. That can suit pages whose contents appear only after you sign in or personalize the site. The trade-off is that Chrome needs to remain open; local alerts are browser-based rather than a cloud monitor continuing independently.
Choose cloud monitoring when checks must continue with your computer off
A cloud monitor runs on Visualping’s servers, so it can keep checking after you close the browser or shut down your computer. You can create it in the dashboard or from the extension. Available schedules and alert channels depend on plan, so confirm the current terms before choosing based on a particular interval or notification method.

Choose the extension for in-page setup, or the web app for dashboard work
The extension is useful when you are already looking at the page you want to monitor and want to begin without first opening the dashboard. The web app suits people who prefer to set up and manage cloud monitors centrally. Extension-created cloud monitors appear in the account dashboard alongside other monitors.
What monitoring involves
Visualping’s basic workflow is to add a webpage, choose the full page or a specific area, describe the change you care about, and set a check frequency. You can review detected changes in the dashboard or through notifications. Visualping says it detects visual, text, and code changes; alerts can include added or removed text, a visual comparison, and an AI-generated summary. See its monitoring guide for the vendor’s description of the process.

Published check intervals
Visualping’s extension page says local checks can run as often as every minute while the browser is open. It describes cloud schedules from every two minutes to monthly, with the fastest intervals depending on plan. These are vendor-published limits, not a guarantee that every account can use every interval; check the live plan details before relying on a schedule. Visualping’s extension page
Pages involving logins, popups, and interactions
Visualping’s update article, by Kayla Zhu and updated July 28, 2026, describes an extension feature for recording clicks, scrolling, logins, and navigation, then replaying those steps during later checks. The examples include dismissing popups, opening product-option menus, and reaching login-protected screens. The article says local monitoring can use an existing signed-in browser session, including sessions with two-factor authentication or single sign-on; for cloud monitoring, recorded login steps are replayed. These are Visualping’s descriptions of its capabilities, not independent test results. Visualping’s extension update

Match the choice to your use case
- Product price or availability: Use local monitoring if the relevant options appear only in your signed-in session. Use cloud monitoring for a public product page when checks need to run with your computer off.
- Job listings, research, or news: Cloud monitoring can watch public pages without requiring your browser to stay open.
- Competitor messaging, SEO, or website regressions: Use the dashboard if you want to manage several cloud monitors centrally.
- Government, regulatory, or compliance changes: Cloud monitoring is the practical choice when you need checks to continue independently of your computer.
Visualping lists these and related use cases, including property prices, product listings, search rankings, and defacement monitoring, in its help guide.

Plans and team requirements
Do not assume the extension and web app have separate monitoring capabilities or schedules: the important constraints are whether a monitor is local or cloud-based and what your plan includes. Visualping’s plan-comparison help article describes Business offerings with workspaces, bulk actions, collaboration tools, onboarding, and a 99% uptime guarantee. These are vendor-stated terms; verify the current offering and guarantee conditions directly before making a purchasing decision. Visualping’s Business plan information

Visualping monitors pages for changes over time; ScreenshotNeo is an alternative when the job is to capture a page as an image or PDF through an API, rather than watch it for changes. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Its clean-shot options accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the response identifying the page verdict and billing status. It also provides MCP tools for AI agents to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs. Details and options are in the ScreenshotNeo service overview and API documentation.
