VirtualPanel pairs Arduino firmware with a Windows application so you can send controls to a connected board and display experiment results on your PC. The Arduino Project Hub page identifies Windows 10 and the Arduino IDE as its software environment and points users to the project’s GitHub releases and documentation.
What VirtualPanel does
VirtualPanel is a PC-side interface for experiments and rapid prototypes. You write and load Arduino code, connect the board to a Windows PC, then use the VirtualPanel application to control the experiment and view its results. It is intended to provide a simple panel without requiring you to build a separate PC application.
The Arduino Project Hub project page was published on July 31, 2019. Its listed page counters—34,413 views and 22 respects—reflect engagement with that page, not measured performance or reliability.
What you need to get started
- A Windows PC. The project page lists Windows 10; it does not provide a current compatibility matrix for newer Windows releases.
- The Arduino IDE, which the project page lists under Software & Tools.
- A supported Arduino or listed compatible board. The page names Arduino Uno Rev3, Arduino Nano, Arduino Mega 2560 Rev3, Arduino Leonardo with Headers, Arduino Due, Arduino Zero, Arduino UNO R4 Minima, Arduino Nano ESP32, Wemos D1 Mini, and Wemos D1 Mini ESP32.
- The VirtualPanel application and project documentation, linked from the Arduino Project Hub project page. That page directs users to the GitHub releases and says to use the latest VirtualPanel release ZIP.
Arduino Uno Rev3 is one explicitly listed hardware choice. The project page does not establish that every listed board has identical setup requirements or that every current board revision is supported.

How to use VirtualPanel with an Arduino
- Get the application and instructions: Open the Arduino Project Hub project page and follow its links to the VirtualPanel GitHub releases and documentation. Use the latest release ZIP indicated by the project page.
- Prepare the board: Use the Arduino IDE to load the project’s Arduino firmware onto a board named in the project’s device list.
- Connect the board: Attach it to the Windows PC and launch the VirtualPanel application.
- Run the experiment: Use the panel’s controls to interact with the firmware and view the results it displays. The precise controls and configuration depend on the project documentation and firmware.
The project page dates to 2019 and does not state a current release number or guarantee compatibility with every modern Windows version. Check the release notes and project documentation for requirements that apply to the ZIP you download.
Diagnose communication and inspect board output
If the panel does not appear to receive data, first check that the firmware is running and that the board is connected to the PC. The Arduino IDE’s built-in tools can help determine whether the board is communicating independently of VirtualPanel.

- TURN CODE INTO REAL-WORLD RESULTS — Follow 22+ guided lessons to make LEDs blink, read temperature and distance, move servo and stepper motors, control an LCD and respond to joystick or IR input; ideal for a family weekend build, homeschool unit, coding club or STEM classroom
- MORE PROJECT VARIETY IN ONE ORGANIZED KIT — Includes the UNO R3 controller, LCD1602 with pre-soldered header, breadboard power module, ultrasonic and DHT11 sensors, joystick, IR receiver and remote, SG90 servo, stepper motor, relay, DC motor, fan blade, displays, LEDs, buttons, resistors and jumper wires
- START WITHOUT SOLDERING — Plug-in modules, a solderless breadboard and the pre-soldered LCD help beginners focus on wiring, code and testing; the illustrated component list makes it easier to find each part and move from one lesson to the next
- LEARN THE LOGIC, THEN CREATE YOUR OWN — Use Arduino IDE and the included example code to understand digital input and output, analog sensing, timing, motor control and display functions, then change thresholds, speeds and sequences for alarms, environmental monitors, reaction games and motion projects
- CLEAR SETUP SUPPORT FOR FIRST-TIME BUILDERS — Download the latest tutorial and code, select the UNO board and correct computer port, check component polarity and breadboard rows, and keep power-module input at 9V or below; younger learners should work with an experienced adult
- Serial Monitor: Arduino describes this as a tool for debugging, testing concepts, or communicating with an Arduino board. Use it to inspect serial messages from the firmware.
- Serial Plotter: Arduino describes this as a tool for tracking and visualising data sent from an Arduino board. Use it to see whether the board is transmitting changing values.
These tools help isolate board output from the VirtualPanel interface; they do not establish that the application itself is compatible with a particular current Windows setup.
When Arduino Cloud may be a better fit
VirtualPanel is oriented toward a local Windows-PC-and-board workflow. Arduino Cloud is a distinct, cloud-connected option for requirements such as remote dashboards, triggers, sharing, historical data, or API access. Those capabilities involve a different deployment and connectivity model; Arduino Cloud is not simply a newer release of VirtualPanel.

The project page and the cited Arduino documentation do not provide an independent performance benchmark, latency figure, security review, or current VirtualPanel release number. The available project details therefore support using it as a local prototyping interface, but not claims about speed, security, ongoing maintenance, or guaranteed compatibility beyond the requirements the project documents.
