Verdict: Vimeo may suit an always-on YouTube channel if you want to schedule prerecorded videos as a continuous playlist and Vimeo’s 24/7 scheduled-channel feature is available on your account. Do not confuse that workflow with Vimeo’s encoder-fed Extended streaming mode: Vimeo says Extended streams cannot simulcast to YouTube. Check the exact feature, plan, and destination availability before paying.
What Vimeo offers for an always-on channel
Vimeo describes two distinct ways to keep a stream active. One programs prerecorded videos as a scheduled channel; the other sends a continuous live signal from an encoder. They solve different problems, and only the playlist-based scheduled workflow is described as simulcasting to YouTube.
Scheduled streams from prerecorded videos
Vimeo’s product page describes uploading prerecorded content, creating a live event with simulive as its source, scheduling a start time, and selecting destinations. It says a playlist can provide a 24/7 channel and that a scheduled stream can simulcast to YouTube and social destinations. Vimeo also describes chat, Q&A, polls, registration, and an on-demand replay after a simulive premiere. These are vendor-described capabilities, not independently verified here. This is the more relevant Vimeo workflow when the channel is built from a programmed library rather than a camera or encoder feed. The page does not establish that every plan, account, or region includes the 24/7 playlist feature, so confirm entitlement with Vimeo before purchase.

Vimeo Help Center describes Extended streaming as an event that stays active while it receives an RTMP signal from an encoder. It is an Enterprise add-on, and it does not support DVR or recording. Most importantly for a YouTube channel, Vimeo states: “No, simulcasting to other destinations is not available for extended streams.” Vimeo Help Center: About extended streaming
So if the requirement is to send the same continuous encoder-fed event from Vimeo to YouTube, Extended streaming is not a match. Its documented continuous-input capability should not be mistaken for the playlist workflow’s YouTube simulcast capability.

Can you simulcast a Vimeo stream to YouTube?
Vimeo documents two ways to configure YouTube as a destination: connect the YouTube account in the event’s Destinations settings, or configure YouTube as a custom RTMP destination with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. Vimeo says the integrated route can be part of a setup with up to 10 destinations; custom RTMP supports up to 20 simultaneous destinations. YouTube requires the account to be verified for live streaming. Vimeo notes that a scheduled YouTube RTMP stream may still require selecting Go live manually in YouTube Live Control Room. For standard simulcasting, Vimeo Help Center lists up to 10 integrated destinations and 20 additional custom RTMP destinations. Some destinations may require an additional action in their own portal. Browser-based streams cannot have simulcast settings reconfigured after going live. Turning a destination off mid-stream archives the event on that destination; turning it on again can create a new event there. Plans, durations, and cost: verify before subscribing
Vimeo’s Help Center lists duration and concurrency limits for standard events, while Extended streaming is a separate Enterprise add-on. Public Vimeo pricing presentations are not consistent across the pages reviewed, so avoid treating a single price as definitive; check checkout for your geography, billing term, seats, and the exact scheduled-channel entitlement.

Does Vimeo’s 24/7 stream work with an encoder?
That depends on which workflow you mean. Extended streaming is explicitly encoder-fed and requires an RTMP signal. A prerecorded playlist channel is scheduled from Vimeo and does not inherently require a hardware encoder. Buying encoder hardware will not remove the Extended mode’s inability to simulcast from Vimeo to YouTube.
For ordinary live events, Vimeo documents supported encoder workflows and a 12-hour limit per stream on Advanced and Premium; Enterprise can add streams and extend streaming to 24/7 as an add-on. How to decide whether Vimeo fits
- Choose the playlist route for consideration if you want prerecorded programming scheduled continuously and need YouTube simulcasting. First confirm the feature is available on your Vimeo account and plan.
- Do not choose Extended streaming for Vimeo-to-YouTube simulcasting. Vimeo documents it as a continuous RTMP-input option, but says it cannot simulcast to other destinations.
- Check whether you need recording or DVR. Extended streaming disables both, according to Vimeo Help Center.
- Budget around the actual checkout offer. The published Advanced pricing and seat details differ across Vimeo pages reviewed; verify billing term, geography, seats, and the 24/7 entitlement.
- Confirm YouTube readiness. The destination account must be verified for live streaming, and scheduled RTMP streams may need a manual Go live action in YouTube Live Control Room.
