The ViewSonic VG1457 turns two 14-inch screens into a foldable portable monitor for extra workspace and face-to-face presentations. That flexibility is its draw; dim output and limited color coverage are its trade-offs. Tom’s Hardware found it adequate for basic productivity and presenting, but a poor fit for photo editing or video watching.
What the VG1457 is—and who it suits
The VG1457 is a foldable dual-screen monitor with two 14-inch IPS panels, each with a 1920 × 1200 WUXGA resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The 2.6-pound unit is designed to add screen space while traveling, rather than to replace a high-quality desktop display. Its panels can be arranged for landscape, portrait, or face-to-face Share use.
That makes it most relevant to people who need more room for documents, reference material, or presentations while working away from a desk. It is less compelling if vivid color, bright viewing, or reliable dual-screen extension across every operating system is essential.

Brightness and color are the main compromise
ViewSonic lists typical brightness as 250 cd/m². Tom’s Hardware’s August 17, 2026 review describes a separate rating of up to 300 nits maximum and reports that the review unit measured 201 nits. These are different figures: the manufacturer’s typical-brightness specification, the maximum rating described in the review, and the independent measurement on one tested unit. The 201-nit result should not be assumed to describe every VG1457.

- PLUG-AND-PLAY DUAL SCREEN: USB C connectivity brings both displays online without extra drivers, while built-in dual 2W speakers and a protective case make this monitor for laptop ready for portable productivity and presentations.
Tom’s Hardware measured 44.8% DCI-P3 and 63.2% sRGB coverage on its review unit. The reviewer found the colors muted and noted grey undertones in dark movie scenes. The practical distinction is important: text, spreadsheets, and presentation slides do not demand the same brightness and color performance as photo editing or video viewing.
Brandon Hill, Tom’s Hardware senior editor, wrote: “For more basic productivity tasks or presenting (which is its primary mission anyway), it’s more than adequate.” That is a workload-specific endorsement, not a claim that the panels are suitable for color-critical work.

Display modes and operating-system limits
ViewSonic lists Mirror, Extend, Full Screen, Share, and Dual Source modes. In Mirror, the screens show the same content; Extend provides separate desktop space; Share positions the displays for people facing one another; and Dual Source accepts independent sources. ViewSonic describes two USB-C inputs for independent sources.

There is a significant Extend limitation: ViewSonic says dual-screen Extend is unavailable on macOS and mobile devices because of MST limitations. On those devices, only the lower screen activates in Extend mode. Check compatibility for the specific computer and operating system before buying if using both panels as an extended desktop is the main reason for choosing this monitor.

Ports, one-cable use, and power
ViewSonic’s global specifications assign the USB-C ports different jobs:
- USB-C1: Drives the upper screen and supports power delivery.
- USB-C2: Supports video to both screens, power delivery, and audio output.
- USB-C3: Dedicated power input.
Tom’s Hardware reports three USB-C ports, including a dedicated power input, and successfully powered its review unit from a laptop with one USB-C cable. Whether a single cable works in a particular setup depends on the connected device’s video and power capabilities.

ViewSonic says the source should provide at least 15 W for one screen and 30 W for two. It warns that insufficient power can cause flickering. If the computer cannot provide enough power, the manufacturer recommends connecting an external adapter through the dedicated USB-C3 power input. The box in Tom’s Hardware’s review included a 65 W wall adapter and two USB-C cables.
Portability, protection, warranty, and price
At 2.6 pounds, the VG1457 is light enough for a laptop backpack, according to Tom’s Hardware. The review unit came with a felt carrying case; the reviewer considered it adequate against superficial scuffs, but not a substitute for drop protection.

| Response time | 16 ms typical |
| Manufacturer-stated color coverage | 45% NTSC; 64% sRGB |
| Minimum backlight life | 15,000 hours |
These are manufacturer specifications; they are not independent test results. In particular, the manufacturer’s 64% sRGB figure and Tom’s Hardware’s 63.2% sRGB measurement are separate claims from different sources and should not be treated as the same test.
Verdict: convenient workspace, not a display for every task
The VG1457’s case is straightforward: it folds two portable screens into one unit and offers useful arrangements for mobile productivity and presenting. Its brightness and color performance limit its appeal, while the macOS and mobile Extend restriction and the need for adequate USB-C power require checking before purchase. It makes sense when extra screen area and flexible presentation modes matter more than vivid, color-accurate viewing.
