To vibe code your first website, start with a small one-page profile or portfolio, give an AI tool a clear brief, then preview, test, and refine what it generates before publishing. Treat the result as a draft: AI can fill in missing details or misunderstand your goal, so you remain responsible for checking the content, links, layout, and any interactions.

Choose a first project you can check

A personal profile, portfolio, landing page, or small informational site makes a practical first project. Its purpose and content are easier to describe and inspect than an app with accounts, payments, databases, or integrations. Keep the first version focused on information that is safe to make public.

For example, a beginner photographer’s one-page portfolio might include a short introduction, three project cards, and a contact link. That is a clearer first goal than asking an AI to build a complete photography business with booking, customer accounts, and payment processing.

Write a brief before you prompt

Decide who the site is for, what it should help them do, which sections it needs, how it should look, and what counts as finished. A specific brief gives the AI fewer important decisions to guess. Microsoft’s guidance recommends defining the goal, audience, and site map before building; SiteGround’s guide likewise emphasizes the goal, audience, required pages or features, and completion criteria.

You can adapt this prompt template:

Build a one-page portfolio for a beginner photographer. Include a short introduction, three project cards, and a contact link. Use a calm, high-contrast visual style. Make the layout work on phones. Do not add logins or collect personal data.

This is a starting point, not a tested prompt or a guarantee of a particular result. Replace the example audience and content with your own, and be explicit about anything the site should not do.

Choose a workflow that fits your comfort level

There is no universally best first vibe-coding tool. Choose based on how much setup and code control you want, how easily you can preview and edit the result, and what publishing requires. Capabilities and terms change, so check the provider’s current documentation before committing to a workflow.

Build path Good fit when What to check
Browser-based AI website builder You want to create, preview, edit, and potentially publish in one service with little setup. Whether it supports the edits and preview you need, and whether it publishes directly or requires a separate hosting step.
AI-assisted code workflow You want more direct control of the files or want to learn how a simple HTML/CSS page is built. How you will run or preview the code, make changes, and arrange hosting or deployment.

Some tools generate a site through conversation, some add visual editors, and others assist inside a conventional code editor. Microsoft’s overview and SiteGround’s guide describe planning and building considerations; Google Cloud discusses responsible AI-assisted development. None of these sources establishes a ranked comparison of providers.

Generate, preview, and improve one thing at a time

Use a short loop: describe the goal, generate a draft, open or run it, evaluate the result, and refine it. A 2025 study by Advait Sarkar and Ian Drosos, based on analysis of more than eight hours of curated video, describes iterative cycles that include prompting, evaluation, testing, and manual edits. Its sample describes that study, not every beginner’s experience.

  1. Generate: Ask for the smallest version of the site that meets your brief.
  2. Preview: Open the result and check it at both desktop and phone-sized widths.
  3. Inspect: Read the copy, follow each link, and try the main interaction, such as a contact link or form.
  4. Make a short issue list: Note what is inaccurate, confusing, broken, or difficult to use.
  5. Refine: Ask for one high-priority change at a time, then preview and test again.

Focused follow-up prompts make it easier to see whether a change fixed the issue or introduced another one. The AI’s output is not proof that it understood your intent or that the page works correctly.

  • Confirm names, descriptions, and other content are accurate.
  • Check layout and readability at desktop and mobile sizes.
  • Follow every link and try every button.
  • If there is a form, submit a test entry and confirm where the information goes and whether the feature works as intended.
  • Review the current publishing steps and terms for your chosen service. A browser builder may have a publish action and shareable URL; another workflow may require separate hosting and deployment.

Google Cloud’s guidance distinguishes exploratory generation from responsible AI-assisted development: people need to review and test the result and take ownership of it. TechRadar warns that generated applications can have security weaknesses, including exposed credentials or missing authentication. Keep API keys, tokens, and passwords out of prompts. If your project involves credentials, accounts, customer information, payments, or other sensitive data, a visual preview is not enough; get a qualified review before launch. SiteGround also recommends seeking help when a project involves private data, payments, accounts, integrations, or errors you cannot explain.

What to leave out of a first build

Accounts, payment handling, databases, and third-party integrations add responsibilities beyond a simple informational page. Avoid them in the first pass unless they are essential and you have the expertise to review how they work. No universal security guarantee for AI-generated code or any builder is established by the cited sources; keep the first site’s scope and information exposure modest.
