Vertex announced on October 1, 2026, that Debanjan Saha, CEO of DataRobot, will join its board as a Class II director. His service is scheduled to take effect October 7. Vertex says his experience leading AI, data and cloud businesses will support its AI-first strategy; the announcement describes the company’s rationale, not evidence of resulting product or business gains.

What Vertex announced

Vertex’s board elected Saha on September 30, 2026, following a recommendation from its Nominating and Governance Committee. The company announced the appointment and filed its Form 8-K on October 1. Board service is scheduled to begin October 7, 2026. Vertex’s announcement and the Form 8-K provide the appointment details.

The filing identifies Saha as a Class II director. His term is scheduled to expire at Vertex’s 2028 Annual Meeting of Stockholders, unless his service ends earlier or until a successor is duly elected and qualified. “Class II” identifies the class assigned to this seat; the filing’s stated endpoint for Saha’s term is the 2028 meeting.

Vertex says its board determined Saha is independent under applicable Nasdaq listing standards and SEC rules. That is the board’s stated determination under those requirements.

Who is Debanjan Saha?

Saha has been CEO of DataRobot since September 2022. Vertex describes his work there as leading a transition from a machine-learning pioneer toward enterprise agentic AI. Before DataRobot, he held senior roles at Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services; at Google Cloud he was vice president and general manager of Data Analytics, and at AWS he was vice president and general manager leading database services. He began his career in executive and technical leadership positions at IBM.

Vertex also says Saha serves on the board of Sorenson Communications and its audit committee. He is an IEEE Fellow and a Distinguished Member of ACM. His computer-science degrees are an MS and PhD from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Technology from IIT Kharagpur.

Why Vertex says it appointed him

Vertex presents Saha’s enterprise AI, data and cloud experience as relevant to its stated AI-first transformation. CEO Christopher Young said, “Debanjan’s experience at the forefront of several major technological transitions, including cloud and now AI, brings the unique perspective that we need to meet the moment.” Young added that Saha’s insight into companies embedding AI in business systems would be valuable as Vertex works to help customers change how indirect tax and compliance work gets done. These are the company’s stated reasons for the appointment.

Saha likewise pointed to indirect tax as a potential area for AI, saying it touches nearly every enterprise transaction and could offer opportunities for insight, automation and strategic value. He also praised Vertex’s customer trust, tax expertise and global footprint. Those comments express his perspective as an incoming director; they do not establish that Vertex has already delivered specific AI-driven tax outcomes.

Vertex describes its business as covering the indirect-tax transaction lifecycle, including tax determination, e-invoicing, reporting, filing and audit defense, supported by tax expertise and integrations. That company positioning helps explain why Vertex says enterprise AI experience matters to its board, but the appointment announcement does not report a new product, measured customer result or financial impact from AI.

What changes on Vertex’s board

Vertex said the appointment would expand its board from nine members to ten, with eight independent directors. This is the company’s board-composition snapshot associated with the October 2026 announcement, not a statement about later composition.

The company’s leadership page provides broader information about its directors and executives; for Saha’s seat classification, term and independence determination, the appointment-specific 8-K is the relevant filing.
