If Versionista seems to have missed a website change, first confirm the exact URL is actively monitored. Then check whether filters or focus phrases excluded the change. If the change appears in Versionista but you did not get an email, inspect notification settings separately: page-level instant alerts are off by default, and summary emails can be suppressed when no changes were detected.
1. Confirm the exact page is being monitored
Open your Versionista page list and verify that the changed URL appears as a monitored page. A URL listed as newly discovered is not automatically monitored: Versionista can find links from monitored pages, but you choose whether to monitor or pause those newly found URLs.
Versionista says it can discover up to 50 new URLs per scan and up to 150 new URLs per monitored site. Newly found pages can also be configured to pause automatically after three weeks. These are discovery and monitoring settings, not evidence that a specific URL was successfully crawled. See Versionista’s new-page notification guidance.
2. Check whether filters or focus phrases excluded the change
Filters can remove parts of a page from consideration
Review the site’s filter configuration for excluded page areas. Filters are useful when a region changes frequently but is not important to your monitoring, but a filter that covers the changed content can make that change invisible to the version record.

Focus phrases narrow which changes create versions
Versionista’s focus-phrase setting records a new version only when a configured phrase is added or deleted. Other changes are ignored for version recording. Matching is case-insensitive, and filters are applied before focus-phrase matching. The feature applies to HTML and plain text, not images, PDFs, Word files, or other content types. If you want broad change coverage, check whether focus phrases are needed at all. Versionista’s tutorial suggests that monitoring all changes and filtering out irrelevant regions may be simpler than maintaining a keyword list.

3. Determine whether detection failed or only the email is missing
A missing email does not by itself mean Versionista failed to detect a change. There are two distinct notification paths:

Account settings also control summary frequency and the content included in instant-alert messages. Review Versionista’s email-alert instructions to confirm the relevant switches.

4. Check newly discovered pages and their monitoring status
If the change is on a page recently linked from another monitored page, inspect the newly found URLs list and the setting for reporting new pages. A report that a URL was discovered is not the same as monitoring that URL for changes. Activate the URL if you want Versionista to track it.
5. Gather evidence before contacting support
If the exact page is active, the relevant content is not filtered out, and your notification settings are correct, collect a concise diagnostic record:

- The exact URL that should be monitored.
- The relevant crawl and version timestamps shown in the account.
- The current filter and focus-phrase settings.
- What changed on the page, and what Versionista recorded or failed to record.
- Whether the issue is a missing version, a missing email, or both.
This checklist follows the settings documented in Versionista’s tutorials; it is not a published support requirement. Public guidance cannot establish whether a particular account’s crawl succeeded or whether a target page was accessible, so account-specific evidence is needed to diagnose those cases.
