The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4-inch Verizon (SM-T307U) is the better provisional pick for most used buyers. Its documented 32 GB internal storage, 3 GB RAM, microSD expansion, and Android 9 baseline make it a more capable starting point than the Verizon Ellipsis 7, which has only 8 GB onboard storage and cannot move apps to an SD card. The comparison applies to this specific Tab A model—not every tablet Samsung sold under the Galaxy Tab A name. A particular used tablet’s condition, account or carrier locks, and ability to activate service still need to be checked.
Which used tablet should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy Tab A 8.4-inch Verizon, model SM-T307U, if both tablets are in comparable working condition and you want a more flexible general-purpose device. Choose an Ellipsis 7 only if you have a specific legacy use for it, its limited app storage is sufficient, and the individual device passes inspection. Verizon’s documentation describes the Ellipsis 7 as an 8 GB device and says apps cannot be moved to an SD card; that makes storage a meaningful constraint even before accounting for the age of the software.
“Galaxy Tab A” refers to multiple models. Samsung’s Verizon-specific specifications cited here are for the 8.4-inch SM-T307U, not every Tab A. Check the model number on any listing before using this comparison to judge it.

| Memory and storage | 8 GB onboard memory; Verizon says apps cannot be moved to an SD card. Verizon support notice | 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage, with a microSD slot rated for cards up to 512 GB. Samsung model datasheet |

What the specifications mean in everyday use
Storage is the Ellipsis 7’s clearest drawback
Eight gigabytes of onboard storage leaves little room for apps and their data, and Verizon says apps cannot be moved to an SD card on the Ellipsis 7. Verizon also documented a support-assisted memory improvement for some early software versions, but that historical note does not promise a currently available fix or remove the underlying storage limitation. The Tab A offers more room, not a guarantee of modern app support
The SM-T307U’s 32 GB internal storage and microSD expansion give it more headroom for files than the Ellipsis 7’s documented 8 GB. Samsung’s listed Android 9 Pie version is a historical specification, not proof that a particular app still supports the tablet or that the device has received later updates. Check compatibility for the apps you actually need before buying; do not assume either tablet will run current apps merely because it powers on.
LTE depends on the specific device and service
Samsung lists Verizon LTE support for the SM-T307U, but a model specification does not verify that a secondhand unit is unlocked, eligible for activation, or compatible with your plan today. Ask the seller for the device identifiers needed for a carrier check and confirm eligibility with Verizon before relying on cellular service. A tablet with working Wi-Fi may still be useful without LTE, but only if Wi-Fi meets your needs.

Check a used tablet before paying
- Confirm the exact model and software. Ask for a clear photo of Settings > About tablet. For the Tab A comparison above, confirm that the model is SM-T307U. On an Ellipsis 7, Verizon’s guide explains where to find its model number, Android version, software version, hardware version, and status: Verizon Ellipsis 7 user guide.
- Check carrier and account status. Ask whether the device is carrier-locked or subject to an account lock, and confirm any needed LTE activation with Verizon. Do not treat historical Verizon branding or Samsung’s LTE specification as proof that service can be activated.
- Test the hardware in person or request a demonstration. Check that the tablet charges, responds to touch across the full screen, connects to Wi-Fi, and plays sound through its speakers. Try the cameras if you need them, and observe whether the battery drains unusually quickly when the tablet is used away from its charger.
- Prefer a return option when inspection is limited. If the seller cannot demonstrate the tablet’s condition or you cannot check it before purchase, a return window reduces the risk of being stuck with a device that has a failing battery, damaged display, or other undisclosed fault.
When the Ellipsis 7 still makes sense
The Ellipsis 7 can be a reasonable purchase only when its limitations fit the job: for example, a narrowly defined legacy task that does not depend on installing many apps or on present-day cellular activation. Verify the software version and test the exact application and network connection you need. Verizon’s record of a KitKat update is historical; it does not establish current update-server availability or support. Verizon’s KitKat update notice
Buying verdict
For a general used-tablet purchase between these documented models, the Galaxy Tab A 8.4-inch Verizon SM-T307U is the stronger choice on paper: it has more internal storage, expandable storage, a higher-resolution documented display, and a newer documented Android baseline. Buy only after verifying the model and the individual unit’s condition. If cellular service matters, confirm activation eligibility with Verizon; if app support matters, check the exact apps rather than relying on the original software specification.
