Verdant is an editable woodland scene and short film built in Feather Engine to showcase terrain, vegetation, atmospheric lighting and cinematic camera work. Its six camera shots can be changed in the Cinematic editor, while the landscape can be adjusted in Foliage. The published 48-second film was captured offline at 1920 × 1080 and 24 fps; those specifications describe the video, not the engine’s real-time performance.
What Verdant demonstrates
Feather Engine describes Verdant as “A woodland study. A new look at the world you can build.” The project is both a visual showcase and an editable scene: the official page says the trees, camera movement and light beams in the film were rendered in the engine. See the Verdant project page.
The scene is composed to make the forest floor and canopy readable rather than filling the view with trees. Rocky clearings and outcrops, fern banks, moss, fallen wood and leaf litter create variation at ground level. Trees use varied bark and branching forms and are grouped with space between them. Grass follows the terrain, responds to wind and uses distance-based detail that favors nearby blades.

How to open and edit the scene
The official page’s workflow uses an engine build with the new Verdant woodland renderer. It says to import the visual template package from the ZIP or find Verdant in the engine Store. Package, Store and build availability can change, so use the current official project page for access details.
- Open Verdant in a compatible Feather Engine build, either from the visual template ZIP or the engine Store.
- Press Play to watch the sequence. Press R to restart it.
- To adjust the six named shots, open Cinematic. To edit the landscape, use Foliage.
- When you are done previewing, stop playback to return to editing, then make changes such as moving the sun, reshaping terrain or changing trees.
- Add a soundtrack if desired and share your version. The downloadable visual template itself does not include generated audio.
Camera composition and foliage placement interact in this scene: the creator reports checking camera corridors against branches as well as ground and rock boundaries, since branches can extend beyond a trunk’s footprint. The closing views were moved into clear space. These are details of Verdant’s production, not a universal engine requirement.

What the film’s specifications do—and do not—show

The official page describes the film as a development preview captured offline, not a real-time frame-rate benchmark. The creator also reports an offline capture at 1920 × 1080 and 24 fps. Neither the footage nor its capture settings establish interactive frame rate, hardware requirements or benchmark performance.

The official page says the download contains the editable scene and visual assets, without generated audio. It identifies landscape scans and models as CC0 and scene code as covered by the included MIT license; asset credits are included in the template. Those terms apply to the specified material, not automatically to every part of the project.

The film’s original music and woodland ambience were generated with Dev MCP’s ElevenLabs tools. Audio reuse is governed separately by the provider’s terms, so do not assume the audio shares the visual assets’ CC0 or the scene code’s MIT licensing. The creator reports that the visual template version described in their article embeds 13 visual assets and no audio; that count is specific to that package version.

Feather Engine’s repository describes a visual-first 3D game engine with terrain, vegetation and cinematic tools, plus Blueprints or FeatherScript and browser and desktop workflows. Its README says the web editor setup calls for Node.js 20 or newer and a modern browser with WebGL 2 support; desktop editing has additional native tooling requirements. Check the current repository setup guidance before installing, because requirements may change.

The project documentation cautions: “Feather Engine is experimental software under active development. The editor is functional and extensively tested, but APIs and the project format may change before a stable release.” That matters if you plan to build on the project or keep it working across future engine updates.
