Verdagy has moved beyond lab-scale claims: it says its 2 MW Moss Landing plant has operated commercial electrolyzer cells for more than 21,000 hours, and it has announced customer agreements and a large manufacturing facility. But those milestones do not prove that its announced projects have been built, that its factory has shipped electrolyzers at scale, or that it has met its cost targets. Verdagy’s current stated goal is fossil-fuel parity by 2028; its earlier goal was $2 per kilogram of hydrogen by 2026. Both are targets, not verified results.
How close is Verdagy to commercial green-hydrogen scale?
Verdagy is closer to commercial scale than a company with only a laboratory prototype: its operating evidence includes a 2 MW plant at Moss Landing, California, while its announced manufacturing facility is designed for production measured in gigawatts. It has also named project partners and customers. The remaining question is whether those pieces translate into delivered electrolyzers and operating plants at the announced scale.
These are separate milestones. An operating demonstration plant can show that equipment works under real operating conditions; a factory’s stated capacity describes what it is designed to produce; and an announced project pipeline or equipment selection is not the same as equipment delivered, construction completed or hydrogen produced commercially.
What Verdagy says is already operating
Verdagy says its highly automated Moss Landing plant has produced hydrogen for more than four years and accumulated more than 21,000 operating hours in commercial cells, according to the company page accessed in 2026. The plant is rated at 2 MW. That is meaningful operating experience, but the stated capacity is not evidence of a gigawatt-scale operating installation.

What the factory figures mean
Verdagy said in 2024 that its Newark, California manufacturing facility covers more than 100,000 square feet and has capacity to produce several gigawatts of electrolyzers. The company announced that shipments from the facility would commence in 2025. The announcement establishes the intended start date, not whether shipments began or how much equipment has since been delivered.
The U.S. Department of Energy reported a $39.6 million grant award in 2024 to accelerate high-volume production of Verdagy’s advanced alkaline eDynamic electrolyzers. Verdagy described the award as pending negotiations. That qualification matters: the announcement does not establish that the funding was finalized or paid.

- 1. Electrical part: motor with wind shoulder, ammeter, voltmeter.
- 2. Ammonia fuel cell.Hydrogen's electrons travel from the anode to the cathode through an external circuit, generating an electric current. At the cathode, the electrons, protons, and oxygen in the air combine to produce water, which is the main by-product of the fuel cell.
- 3. PEM (proton exchange) water electrolyzer.Gaseous hydrogen is sent to the anode of the membrane, and air is sent to the cathode. The hydrogen atoms are stripped of electrons on the anode side, and the positively charged protons pass through the membrane to reach the cathode. In order for this reaction to occur, a platinum catalyst must be used.
- 4. The two proton exchange membrane electrodes in the organic base and the presenter are 35mm*35mm. Experimental steps. Add deionized water to the water level in the PEM water electrolyzer. The amount of water should not be too much to prevent water from flowing into the battery. After adding water, connect the hydrogen gas outlet on the water electrolyzer to the hydrogen gas inlet on the electrical energy with a gas pipe.
- 5.Then connect the 6V-12V DC power supply to the positive and negative wiring of the water electrolyzer part, and connect the transportation line of the electrical part to the electric energy after 2-3 minutes, the small motor starts to work, and the current is displayed on the current and voltmeter. Positive value.
What is Verdagy’s green-hydrogen target?
Verdagy’s current company materials state a goal of reaching cost parity with fossil-fuel-derived hydrogen by 2028. Earlier DOE-related materials gave a target of $2 per kilogram of levelized hydrogen cost by 2026. These are company targets, not independently verified cost results. The materials cited here do not establish that either target has been achieved.
Levelized cost is a way to compare the cost of producing hydrogen over a project’s lifetime, rather than looking only at the purchase price of an electrolyzer. It depends on factors such as electricity costs, equipment efficiency and utilization, financing, maintenance and plant life. A target for the cost of hydrogen is therefore not a quoted equipment price or a guarantee that every project using the equipment will reach that cost.

Who is buying or evaluating Verdagy electrolyzers?
The announcements show a mix of a supplier endorsement, development and marketing agreements, a supply agreement tied to a project pipeline, and a selected equipment deployment. They do not all represent the same level of commitment or project progress.
| Organization and date | What was announced | What the announcement establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Doral, April 9, 2024 | Verdagy said it would supply Doral through 2030 for a global project pipeline of more than 1 GW across Europe, the United States, Australia and the Middle East. | A supply agreement associated with Doral’s development pipeline; the announcement does not mean that more than 1 GW is already installed or operating. |
| Shell, March 28, 2024 | Shell completed a year-long technology, design and safety review, including a HAZOP, and endorsed Verdagy’s eDynamic electrolyzers as a supplier for upcoming projects. | A supplier endorsement following review; the announcement did not state a project capacity or establish a completed Shell installation. |
| Samsung Engineering, March 7, 2024 | The companies announced a global joint development and marketing agreement for infrastructure-scale projects. | A collaboration agreement; the announcement did not state a capacity or identify a completed project. |
| Petron Scientech, January 22, 2025 | Petron selected 320 MW of eDynamic electrolyzers for a planned biorefinery intended to produce more than 45 KTA of green hydrogen. | A selected deployment for a planned facility, intended to serve sustainable aviation fuel, renewable diesel, e-methanol and biochemicals. Selection is not proof that the facility is built or producing hydrogen. |
| Black & Veatch, listed in Verdagy’s March 2025 news index | A FEED study for a proposed Texas clean-hydrogen plant described as 60 MW and 9,000 tons per year. | A company-reported project lead at the front-end engineering and design stage; the index entry alone does not establish that the project proceeded to construction. |
These announcements answer “who is buying?” only in part. Doral has a supply agreement tied to a pipeline, and Petron selected a stated quantity of equipment for a planned biorefinery. Shell’s announcement is an endorsement, while Samsung Engineering’s is a joint development and marketing agreement. None of these descriptions by itself confirms delivery or operation.

What Verdagy’s electrolyzers are designed to do
Verdagy makes alkaline water-electrolysis systems under the eDynamic name. Electrolyzers use electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The company’s stated value proposition is to make infrastructure-scale hydrogen with large cells, high current density, wide turndown and the ability to follow variable renewable electricity from wind and solar. The aim is to keep a plant useful when renewable power output changes, rather than requiring a constant power supply.
Those design claims matter to a project’s economics, but they do not by themselves show how a system performs at a particular site. Buyers need project-specific evidence on efficiency across operating loads, response to changing power, availability, degradation, maintenance needs and contractual performance guarantees. The announcements summarized above do not provide those values.

What would show that Verdagy has reached its target?
A convincing commercial-scale case needs evidence across the full chain, not just a large factory number or an announced project. When comparing Verdagy with another electrolyzer supplier, distinguish among these measures:
- Technology and flexibility: Confirm the electrolyzer type and obtain measured response and operating-range data for the intermittent wind or solar profile the project will actually use.
- Operating record: Check the size and duty cycle of operating installations, the meaning of reported operating hours, and whether performance has been independently verified.
- Manufacturing and delivery: Separate stated factory capacity from actual production, shipment records, installation and commissioning.
- Cost and efficiency: Ask whether figures are targets, modeled projections or measured project results, and what electricity price, utilization, financing and maintenance assumptions underpin them.
- Bankability: Review warranties, performance guarantees, service coverage, degradation provisions and remedies if equipment misses contractual requirements.
- Project maturity: Identify whether a claim is an agreement, equipment selection, FEED study, construction milestone or operating asset. Treat each as a different stage.
- Fit for use: Compare project capacity, location and hydrogen end use. A biorefinery’s requirements may differ from those of a grid-connected hydrogen project or another industrial user.
On the available milestones, Verdagy has operational experience at 2 MW, manufacturing capacity it says can reach several gigawatts, and significant announced commercial relationships. The evidence cited here does not yet establish factory shipment volumes, completed multi-hundred-megawatt projects, or achievement of the company’s hydrogen-cost goals.
