If you mean using your VIZIO TV remote to change soundbar volume, connect a supported VIZIO soundbar to the TV’s HDMI ARC/eARC port and enable HDMI-CEC on the TV. This is device control over HDMI—not a separate Bluetooth pairing between the TV remote and soundbar. The exact menus and behavior depend on your TV and soundbar models.
Set up TV-remote control over HDMI ARC/eARC
- Check the ports. Confirm that both the TV and soundbar have HDMI ARC or eARC ports. Connect the soundbar’s TV/eARC port to the TV port labeled ARC or eARC. VIZIO says an HDMI cable is included with the models covered by its SV210M-0808 user manual; check your own package and manual before buying a replacement.
- Enable HDMI-CEC on the TV. Look in the TV’s settings for HDMI-CEC. The feature may use a different name or menu path depending on the TV brand and model; VIZIO’s manual directs users to the TV manual for CEC instructions, so there is no universal path to provide.
- Select the soundbar as the TV’s audio output if necessary. Use the TV’s audio settings to choose the external audio system or soundbar, following the TV’s own instructions.
- Test the TV remote. Try the volume and mute buttons while the TV and soundbar are on. VIZIO says HDMI eARC allows TV-remote volume control on its 2.1 Soundbar SE product page. Feature support can vary by model.
If your setup uses optical or the remote does not work
Optical is a different connection from HDMI ARC/eARC. The cited VIZIO soundbar manual directs users who need an optical connection to VIZIO support rather than providing a universal TV-remote setup or IR-code procedure. If volume control fails, check the manuals for your exact TV and soundbar or contact VIZIO support; the right next step depends on the models and connection.
- Confirm the HDMI cable runs between the TV’s ARC/eARC port and the soundbar’s TV/eARC port.
- Verify that HDMI-CEC is enabled on the TV and that the TV is set to use the external audio system, if that selection is required.
- Check both model numbers and their manuals to confirm compatible ports and control features.
TV remote pairing is different from VIZIO Mobile app pairing
If you want to adjust soundbar settings from a phone, VIZIO documents Bluetooth pairing between a mobile phone and the soundbar for app control. That is a separate setup from controlling soundbar audio with the TV remote. App discovery steps vary by guide and model, so follow the instructions for your specific soundbar rather than relying on a generic button sequence.
