Use chromedp.Screenshot for a specific form element, chromedp.CaptureScreenshot for the visible viewport, or chromedp.FullScreenshot for the whole page. Wait for the form—not just navigation—to render, then save the returned bytes with os.WriteFile. Finally, inspect the image in the same browser environment used for production to catch missing Devanagari glyphs, clipping, or unexpected line breaks.
Choose the screenshot scope
| Chromedp action | What it captures | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
chromedp.Screenshot(selector, &buf, ...) |
The first element matching the selector, captured as its clipped area. | You need just a form, field group, or panel. |
chromedp.CaptureScreenshot(&buf) |
The current browser viewport. | You need the visible portion of the page. |
chromedp.FullScreenshot(&buf, quality) |
The page beyond the viewport. | You need a long form or the complete page. |
These actions have different scopes; capturing the viewport does not automatically include content below it. The Chrome DevTools Protocol also exposes Page.captureScreenshot, with PNG as its default format and support for PNG, JPEG, and WebP. Its options include a clip, JPEG quality from 0 to 100, and captureBeyondViewport. See the chromedp package documentation and CDP method documentation.
Capture a rendered form and save it in Go
The following example navigates to a form, waits for a form element to become visible, captures the full page as PNG, and writes the bytes to disk. Replace the URL and selector with the actual form page and a selector that indicates the relevant content is ready.

This is an illustrative pattern based on chromedp’s API, not a claim that it was run against a particular government site. The official chromedp example also demonstrates navigation, capture, and writing screenshot bytes with os.WriteFile: chromedp screenshot example.
Make the readiness condition match the page
Navigate completing does not guarantee that client-rendered form fields, delayed requests, or web fonts have finished rendering. Prefer a selector for the actual form or a known completion state over an arbitrary sleep. If the form is inside an embedded frame, a selector in the top-level document may not identify its content; adapt the wait to the frame and page structure.
Capture only the form or just the viewport
For a targeted element, replace the full-page action with chromedp.Screenshot and a selector for the form. The helper captures the first matching element. For only the visible browser area, use chromedp.CaptureScreenshot(&buf). Save the resulting bytes with os.WriteFile in either case.

Check Hindi text and layout in the output
Open the saved image and check the actual Devanagari characters, not just whether an image file was created. Review labels, matras and conjuncts for missing glyphs, then check that text is not clipped and line wrapping has not changed the form layout. Verify the capture in the same browser and container environment used for production, since rendering depends on the page and that runtime.
The available sources do not establish a single font installation or CSS change that fixes Hindi rendering across government sites. If glyphs are missing, inspect the page rendering and font availability in the actual runtime rather than assuming that a screenshot setting will fix it.
A correct-looking screenshot does not establish that a form is accessible. India’s GIGW site links to its version 3.0 government website guidance and accessibility resources, including considerations such as semantic form labels, structure, reading order, and PDF language metadata: GIGW guidelines and GIGW accessibility guidance.

- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
Choose a file format that matches the bytes
For chromedp.FullScreenshot, quality 100 selects PNG; a quality value below 100 selects JPEG. Give the output filename the matching extension: use .png at quality 100 and .jpg or .jpeg otherwise. Do not name a JPEG file .png. The CDP method also supports WebP, but that does not mean the FullScreenshot quality parameter selects WebP.
PNG is a lossless option for form text and fine edges; JPEG may reduce file size but can introduce compression artifacts. Choose based on how the image will be used, and check the saved result. The capture format and options are documented by CDP.
Account for full-page capture and emulation
FullScreenshot captures beyond the viewport, but its helper overrides device-emulation settings. If the capture pipeline depends on an emulated device profile or viewport, restore those settings after the full-page capture before relying on them for subsequent work. The helper’s behavior is documented in the chromedp API.

For reproducible captures, keep the readiness condition, browser/container environment, viewport or device configuration, and chosen output format consistent. Recheck the saved image after changing any of them; Hindi line breaks and form layout can vary with rendering conditions.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The screenshot shows a blank or incomplete form. | The capture ran before delayed or script-rendered content was ready. | Wait for a selector or state that represents the actual form content, not only navigation completion. |
| The screenshot ends at the visible viewport. | The selected action captures only the viewport. | Use chromedp.FullScreenshot for content below the fold, or capture a specific element with chromedp.Screenshot. |
| Hindi characters are missing or look wrong. | The page or browser runtime did not render the expected glyphs. | Inspect the page and font availability in the production browser/container, then review a fresh capture. No universal font fix is established for all sites. |
| The saved file does not open or is mislabeled. | The extension does not match the output format. | For FullScreenshot, use PNG and .png at quality 100; use JPEG and a JPEG extension for a lower quality value. |
| A later capture no longer uses the expected emulated viewport. | FullScreenshot overrides emulation settings. |
Restore the device or viewport emulation after the full-page capture. |
| The screenshot is visually correct but the form may still be hard to use with assistive technology. | A bitmap only shows visual output; it does not test semantics or assistive-technology behavior. | Review the live page separately against the relevant GIGW accessibility guidance. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a screenshot confirm that a Hindi government form is accessible?
No. A screenshot lets you review visual rendering; accessibility requires separate checks of the live form and its semantics and assistive-technology behavior.
Which chromedp action captures just one matching form element?
Use chromedp.Screenshot(selector, &buf, ...); it captures the first element matching the selector.
