Use a television or a smaller screen that produces its own image: without a projector, a blank wall cannot show a movie. For a shared outdoor gathering, an outdoor-rated TV is the most suitable choice for regular use; a laptop, tablet, or phone can work for just one or a few viewers.
Choose a screen that fits the audience and setting

Set up the screen for outdoor viewing
Choose shade and consider the time of day
Place the display in shade where possible, and check its own manual for permitted placement and operating conditions. Samsung says its Terrace TV is designed for partial shade and advises keeping it out of direct sunlight. Watching after sunset or in shade can also reduce ambient light competing with the picture; that is a practical inference from the sunlight guidance, not a guarantee of visibility for every display.
Check exposure limits on the exact model
Outdoor protection is not universal. Samsung states that its Terrace is IP55 rated and should not be submerged. Its support guidance also says a dark area can appear if the panel surface exceeds 158°F (70°C), typically after direct sunlight exposure. Those figures are specific to that product, not general specifications or temperature limits for televisions. See Samsung’s Terrace support guidance.

Keep power and cables protected
Follow the display maker’s instructions for power and placement. Keep plugs and connections away from moisture, and route cables so people will not trip over them. Do not treat an indoor TV as safe in wet conditions unless its own documentation says it is suitable.
Check screening permission for a public or group event
Watching at home with family is different from showing a film to a public or community audience. Rules depend on the country, venue, audience, film, and circumstances. In the United States, copyright law addresses public performances and displays; it defines public display to include showing a work by a device or process, and treats a public place or a gathering beyond the normal circle of family and social acquaintances as potentially public. See 17 U.S.C. § 101 and 17 U.S.C. § 106.

In the United Kingdom, government guidance says a public film screening may require permission from the copyright owner. Buying or renting a film, or having a personal subscription, does not by itself grant public-screening permission; a premises licence may also be needed in some situations. Check the UK government’s film-screening guidance. For a neighborhood, school, club, park, or ticketed event, check the rules that apply locally and obtain any required permission.
