For a one-off image, sign in in your own browser and capture the page there. For repeat captures, use authorized browser automation that signs in through the site’s normal process. URL2PNG’s reviewed Quickstart Guide describes rendering controls but does not document interactive sign-in or reuse of a saved browser session; that is a statement about the guide, not proof that every URL2PNG setup lacks authenticated-capture options.
Why URL2PNG returns the login page
A screenshot service requests or opens a page in its own remote browser. That browser can show protected content only if it has an authorized authentication context. A URL that works in your browser may still lead to a login form when requested by a separate capture service, because your local browser’s cookies and session are not automatically shared with it.
URL2PNG documents viewport size, full-page capture, custom CSS, a custom user agent, delay, cache TTL, and a readiness marker that waits for a page element. The reviewed guide does not describe an interactive login flow or saved-session reuse. A custom user agent changes the identity string sent with a request; delay and readiness settings affect rendering time. None of those settings, by themselves, signs the service in. Capture the page once in a browser you control
- Open the site in your normal browser and complete its approved sign-in process.
- Navigate to the protected page and wait until the intended content is visible.
- Use your browser’s screenshot function for the visible area, or its print-to-PDF function if a document is more useful.
- If you need a particular section, capture that area. For a long page, use a full-page capture option if your browser provides one.
This keeps the signed-in session in the browser you control and avoids sending account credentials or session cookies to a screenshot provider. Playwright’s screenshot documentation also explains viewport, element, and full-page captures: Playwright screenshot tools.

Automate recurring captures with an authorized browser session
For scheduled or repeatable screenshots, browser automation can navigate to the page and capture it after an authorized user or approved test account has signed in. Playwright’s Page API documents navigation and page.screenshot(), including full-page capture: Playwright Page API. The following is a minimal Node.js example for a page that is already accessible in the browser context; it does not implement a site-specific login, which depends on that site’s approved authentication flow.

A reliable signal might be a page heading or element that appears only after sign-in; do not rely only on a fixed delay if page state can vary. The example’s navigation and screenshot calls illustrate the documented Page API capability, not a tested login script.

Protect authentication state
- Use an account and access level authorized for the capture.
- Treat passwords, cookies, tokens, and browser session-state files as credentials. Keep them out of source control, logs, and public build artifacts.
- Prefer a least-privilege test account for recurring jobs, and define how its credentials are stored, rotated, and revoked.
- If the site requires MFA, SSO, anti-bot checks, or expiring sessions, ask the site owner for an approved testing route or test configuration. Do not try to bypass access controls.
Know when HTTP Basic Auth is different
HTTP Basic Authentication is a specific HTTP credential mechanism, not a general solution for signing in through a website’s login form. Some screenshot providers document parameters for Basic Auth: Capture authentication documentation describes an httpAuth option, while URL2IMG documentation lists username and password options.
Those provider-specific examples do not establish support for interactive JavaScript login, SSO, MFA, CAPTCHA, or reuse of an already signed-in browser session. Before sending credentials to a third party, confirm the provider’s current security practices and terms, and verify that the target uses the authentication type the provider actually supports.

Choose the route that fits the job

Troubleshoot the result
The screenshot shows a login page
The capture browser probably lacks an authorized authenticated session. Use a browser where you have signed in, or configure authorized automation to authenticate through the site’s normal route. A user agent or longer delay does not create a signed-in session.
The screenshot is blank or still loading
First confirm that the content is accessible in the same authentication context used for capture. Then address timing: URL2PNG documents delay and a say_cheese readiness marker, which may help when a page needs more time to render after access is available. They do not provide authentication. The page uses Basic Auth
Check that the screenshot service explicitly supports HTTP Basic Auth and follow its current documented credential format. Support is provider-specific; the Capture and URL2IMG documentation describes their respective options at Capture and URL2IMG.
The site uses MFA, SSO, or anti-bot checks
Use a site-owner-approved test account, testing configuration, or browser session established by an authorized user. Do not attempt to defeat access restrictions. If the workflow cannot safely complete authentication in automation, capture from a controlled signed-in browser instead.

It works locally but not through URL2PNG
Compare the network access and authentication context: the local browser may have a session or network route the remote renderer does not. The reviewed public guide does not settle account-specific or deployment-specific URL2PNG capabilities. Ask URL2PNG support about the exact authentication method and configuration rather than assuming the documented rendering controls cover it.
