In YouTube Studio on desktop, select CREATE → Upload videos, choose your video file, fill in its details, review the available checks, then choose a visibility setting or schedule the video and select SAVE. You can also upload from the YouTube or YouTube Studio mobile app.
Upload a video from a computer
- Sign in to YouTube Studio using the channel where you want the video to appear.
- In the upper-right corner, select CREATE, then Upload videos.
- Select a video file. YouTube Help says you can select up to 15 videos at once; use Edit for each file to add or change its details.
- Enter the title and description, choose the audience setting, and add available elements such as subtitles or captions, cards, and an end screen.
- Review Checks for copyright issues. If your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program, the flow also includes ad-suitability review and monetization controls.
- Under Visibility, select Private, Unlisted, or Public, or choose a schedule. Review your choices and select SAVE.
YouTube Help lists a 100-character limit for video titles. Its mobile guidance lists a 5,000-character description limit. These are published interface limits, and YouTube may change them; check the current upload screen if a limit affects your post.
Choose when and who can watch

Uploading and publishing are separate actions: YouTube Help explains that uploading imports the video file to YouTube, while publishing makes it available for anyone to watch. A public video can also be set to premiere instantly.

Processing can take time
YouTube says a video can be published once standard-definition processing is complete. HD and 4K processing may take longer; processing time depends on factors including video quality, length, format, and traffic. If higher resolutions are not available immediately, allow processing to finish.

Checks are not a guarantee
Copyright checks run in the background, and YouTube says you can publish while they are still running. A clean result is not legal clearance or a guarantee against later claims or enforcement; later manual claims, strikes, or setting changes can affect the video. For enrolled creators, likeness detection may also run in the background. YouTube says these checks do not restrict visibility, but a video may later be removed if it violates policy.
If you close the upload window early
If you close the desktop upload window before choosing visibility, YouTube says the unfinished upload is saved as private on the Studio Content page.

Upload from a phone or tablet

The desktop route is useful when the file is already on your computer or you want to work through the desktop upload controls. The mobile routes let you choose a file on your device; available controls vary by app.

Check the file and account before uploading
- Long videos: YouTube Help says videos longer than 15 minutes require a verified Google Account.
- Maximum size or duration: The listed ceiling is 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less.
- Large files: YouTube recommends an up-to-date browser for files larger than 20 GB.
- Audio-only files: YouTube says it cannot upload an audio-only file as a video. To post audio, create a video file by adding an image with video-editing software.
- Vertical or square videos: You do not need to add black bars at the sides.
These limits and feature rules come from YouTube Help pages that do not display publication dates, so verify current requirements in YouTube’s upload limits and verification guidance if your file exceeds the usual duration or size.

Common upload issues
The video is longer than 15 minutes
Verify the Google Account associated with the channel, then retry the upload. YouTube’s upload guidance says verification is required for videos longer than 15 minutes.
The upload is still processing
Wait for processing to finish, especially for HD or 4K video. YouTube says timing varies with quality, duration, format, and traffic; the availability of standard definition can precede higher resolutions.

You closed the desktop dialog and cannot find the video
Open the Studio Content page and look for the unfinished upload. If the visibility step was not completed before the window closed, YouTube saves it as private.
You need to post an audio recording
Convert it into a video file by pairing it with an image in video-editing software; YouTube does not accept audio-only uploads as videos.
