If USB debugging is unavailable on your Samsung Galaxy phone, Auto Blocker may be disabling it. For a trusted development task, temporarily turn off Auto Blocker, enable USB debugging in Developer options, and switch Auto Blocker back on when you are finished. Menu names and availability can vary by model, region, carrier, and software version.
Check Auto Blocker before changing developer settings
Samsung says Auto Blocker blocks commands sent through a USB cable, and its support FAQ says USB debugging is disabled while Auto Blocker is enabled. The feature is available on Galaxy devices running One UI 6.0 (Android 14) or later, but that does not mean every eligible phone has identical menus or behavior. See Samsung’s Auto Blocker guide and Samsung’s support information on USB debugging and Auto Blocker for model-specific details.
- Open Settings > Security and privacy > Auto Blocker. If you do not see it there, search Settings for “Auto Blocker.”
- If Auto Blocker is on and you need wired ADB debugging, switch it off temporarily.
- Once you have completed the development task, turn USB debugging off and re-enable Auto Blocker.
Samsung recommends keeping Auto Blocker enabled as a security measure against unauthorized USB commands that could access or modify the device. Turn it off only for a task you intend to perform with a trusted computer. Samsung’s Auto Blocker overview explains the feature and its security purpose.

Turn on USB debugging and connect your computer
- Open Settings > Developer options.
- Switch on USB debugging and confirm the prompt if one appears.
- Connect the phone to a development computer using a data-capable USB cable, then use Android Debug Bridge (ADB) for the task.
USB debugging lets an Android device communicate with a development machine through ADB, according to Android’s developer-options documentation. Samsung describes Developer options as tools for app development and cautions that their use is unsupported and may affect phone performance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If you only want to transfer files, do not enable debugging
USB debugging is for developer communication with ADB; it is not required for ordinary file transfer. Samsung handles file transfer and Android Auto through a separate USB connection-mode setting. On One UI 8.0, Samsung says the default is Charging phone only; to transfer files, select Transferring files / Android Auto from the USB notification. Follow Samsung’s USB connection-mode instructions for the steps that apply to your device.

If ADB still cannot connect after USB debugging is enabled, check that the cable supports data rather than charging only, and confirm the phone is connected to the intended computer. A cable does not bypass Auto Blocker or unlock a disabled setting.
