If you did not enable a remote unlock option before your Samsung tablet became locked, there may be no way to remove the screen lock while keeping the data on the tablet. Samsung’s current UK guidance points to a factory reset or support; a reset erases local data, and Google may require the account previously used on the tablet during setup. The available options vary by model, software version, and country.
Can you unlock a Samsung tablet without Find My Mobile?
Only if another supported access method is still available, or a remote unlock feature was configured in advance and is supported for your device. Samsung’s guidance has changed and differs across regions: its UK support page says a device without a previously configured remote unlock method needs a factory reset, while an older Samsung Peru page describes remote unlocking under specified conditions. Do not assume that SmartThings Find or Samsung Find can remotely remove your tablet’s screen lock. Check the current Samsung support guidance for your country and exact model.
Samsung’s current UK guidance, updated April 24, 2026, states: “If you are locked out of your device and have not set up a remote unlock method, you will need to perform a factory reset.” Samsung UK: I can’t unlock my Samsung Galaxy device
What recovery options are available?

Check these things before erasing the tablet
- Look for a backup. A factory reset deletes data stored locally. Check whether your photos, files, and other important content are backed up before proceeding.
- Confirm the Google account. After a reset, Factory Reset Protection may ask for the Google account previously registered on the tablet. Make sure you can sign in to that account; resetting does not remove this ownership check. Google account verification guidance
- Check whether a remote action was enabled beforehand. Samsung describes Find and SmartThings Find functions as requiring the device to be powered on, connected to the internet, associated with a Samsung account, and configured for remote controls. - Use guidance for your model and country. Settings and menu names can differ by tablet model and software version, and Samsung’s remote-unlock guidance is not consistent across regions. Samsung support
How to proceed if no unlock method was set up
- Try only an access method you already set up. If a supported biometric method still lets you authenticate, Samsung UK describes a limited option for resetting unlock methods. That process removes existing unlock data, including biometrics, and the cited instructions focus on phones; confirm that the option applies to your tablet before using it. Samsung UK guidance
- If you accept losing local data, use an available reset or erase route. Samsung describes remote erase through Samsung Find and Google Find My Device, subject to service availability and device conditions. These are erase options, not non-destructive screen-lock unlocks. - Complete setup with the previously registered Google account if prompted. Factory Reset Protection may prevent setup from continuing until that account is verified. Google account verification guidance; Samsung support
- Contact Samsung support or a service center if verification fails. Samsung directs users who cannot complete Google verification to service. Do not assume service can recover erased or inaccessible local data, or bypass ownership protection. Samsung support
Unlocking is different from erasing
Remote management may let you locate, lock, or erase a device, but erase is not a way to unlock the existing tablet while preserving its contents. It removes local data and requires you to set up the device again. A remote action also depends on the tablet’s prior account and remote-control configuration, power, and internet connection. Avoid tools or accessories advertised as lock bypasses or data-preserving fixes. Samsung’s documented recovery routes are account verification, reset or erase, and support; the available guidance does not establish a physical product as a way to bypass the lock or retain data.
