The UNA Watch is a GPS sports watch whose clearest distinction is not a proven performance edge, but its repairable, modular design and public developer platform. UNA lists dual-frequency GPS, always-on heart-rate monitoring, and up to 20 hours of GPS tracking, but those are manufacturer claims: available evidence does not establish how accurately it tracks routes or heart rate, or how long it lasts in independent testing. It is most compelling for people who want a watch they can modify or repair—not for buyers who need verified performance or a swimming watch.

What the UNA Watch offers

UNA positions the watch for running, treadmill sessions, cycling, hiking, walking, and workouts without GPS. Its current product page lists a 6-axis accelerometer, dual-frequency GPS, always-on heart-rate monitoring, a barometric altimeter, and USB-C charging. It also says activities can be synced to Strava through the UNA mobile app, available for iOS and Android. These are features and capabilities described by the maker, not independently verified test results. UNA Watch product page

Battery claims

UNA advertises up to 10 days of everyday battery life and up to 20 hours of GPS tracking. “Up to” is important: the figures are stated maximums, and no independent controlled test establishes typical endurance or how settings and activity affect it. USB-C charging is listed on the same product page.

Repairability is the strongest differentiator

The maker describes the hardware as modular and repairable, with replaceable components that include the battery and display. Its product page specifically raises replacing a cracked screen or a dead battery as examples. That makes repair access a meaningful design proposition, but it does not establish how easy a repair is in practice, parts availability over time, repair costs, or a repair success rate. What makes the developer platform unusual

UNA has a public SDK intended for developers building native apps that use watch hardware. The maker describes access to real sensors, reference apps, CMake builds, a desktop simulator, and installing compiled .uapp applications over USB. Its developer page lists a Cortex-M33 processor, 4GB of storage, and BLE 5.2 wireless. The SDK is listed under the MIT license; housing and circuit-board designs are listed under CC BY 4.0. Documentation covers setup, tutorials, platform information, and examples. UNA Watch open-source page UNA Watch SDK documentation

This is a concrete advantage for technically curious owners who want to build or install watch apps. It is not evidence of a large developer community, a broad app catalogue, or long-term software support; those outcomes are not established by the platform materials.

Water resistance: not a swimming watch

The current product page advertises IPX5 water resistance. That rating should not be read as approval for swimming or submersion: a March 2025 Kickstarter FAQ explicitly advised against swimming and total submersion, and the current product page does not position the watch as a swim tracker. Treat it as unsuitable for swimming unless UNA publishes clearer current guidance. UNA Watch product page Kickstarter FAQ

Performance still needs independent verification

The available sources do not provide sufficiently detailed independent testing of GPS route accuracy, satellite acquisition, heart-rate accuracy, comfort, reliability, or actual battery endurance under controlled conditions. Dual-frequency GPS and an always-on optical heart-rate sensor describe the hardware or maker claim; they do not prove that the watch matches established sports watches in tracking quality. Buyers choosing primarily for training data should wait for credible comparative tests or make their decision with that uncertainty in mind.

Software, subscription, and service terms

A March 2025 Kickstarter FAQ said no subscription was needed for the watch or mobile app, and described the operating system as custom and based on FreeRTOS. Those are dated campaign answers; the current product page confirms mobile syncing to Strava but does not, in the cited material, restate subscription terms. Check current retail terms with UNA before purchase rather than treating the campaign FAQ as a current guarantee. Kickstarter FAQ UNA Watch product page

The campaign FAQ described 24-month coverage for watches and accessories containing batteries, and six months for non-battery accessories such as straps and cables. UNA’s current product page separately lists a two-year warranty, alongside a 30-day money-back guarantee and free shipping. Purchase terms can change, so confirm the applicable warranty, exclusions, and return conditions on the live product page before ordering. Kickstarter FAQ UNA Watch product page

Availability and campaign background

UNA is listed for sale on its official site. Its Kickstarter campaign ran from April 2 to May 2, 2025, raising £261,002 from 1,293 backers against a £10,000 goal. The campaign’s March 2025 FAQ had set an August 2025 shipping goal for early backers; that goal alone does not establish that every backer received a watch on schedule. A later campaign update is titled “Watches Have Now Started SHIPPING!” and the campaign page shows a July 27, 2026 update marker. Kickstarter campaign Kickstarter shipping update

Who should consider the UNA Watch?

  • A good fit: buyers drawn to replaceable hardware, repair access, custom apps, and experimentation with a public SDK.
  • Consider carefully: runners and cyclists who depend on accurate GPS, dependable heart-rate data, or predictable battery life; independent verification is not established in the available sources.
  • Look elsewhere: swimmers who need a watch intended for pool or open-water use.

UNA’s strongest case is its combination of modular hardware and an unusually explicit path for developers to build on the watch. Its central trade-off is evidence: the headline sports features are maker-stated, while independent performance results are not established. That makes it an interesting option for tinkerers, but a harder recommendation for athletes choosing solely on measured training performance.
