UGREEN’s Magic E-Ink Screen Case adds a rear color e-ink display for showing a selected image—not a second phone screen or a reading display. Reports describe it as a China-launched case for iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro models, priced at CNY 279 at launch; an international release has not been confirmed.
What the UGREEN Magic E-Ink Screen Case does
The case puts a small color e-ink panel on the back of a compatible iPhone. You choose an image from the phone’s gallery or create a custom one in the UGREEN app, then send it to the case. It is designed to display that image, such as a photo, rather than act as a general-purpose second screen or an e-reader.

Gizmochina reports a 3.7-inch panel using six particle colors: black, white, red, yellow, blue and green. The resulting image is color, but the reported six-color palette is limited compared with a typical phone display. Gizmochina’s October 3, 2026 report says sending an image takes about 20 seconds and the display refresh takes about another 20 seconds—roughly 40 seconds total. These are reported figures, not independent timing measurements.

How images transfer and how the display behaves
Image transfer is reported to use NFC between the phone and case. Gizmochina says the image remains visible without power once displayed, including when the phone is switched off. It also reports a side button that disconnects the case’s NFC antenna, without interfering with contactless card taps or phone payments. Those are product details attributed to the report, rather than independently verified performance results.

Case construction and protection claims
Gizmochina reports matte black, fog white and burgundy finishes, with TPU, PC and microfiber in the construction. It describes a metal camera button, a separate NFC button, cushioning at all four corners, and raised edges around the phone screen and camera. The reported edge heights are about 1 mm above the screen and 0.7 mm above the camera lenses. These are construction details, not evidence of a tested drop rating; the reporting provides no independent drop-test result.

Not for someone primarily looking to read on a larger e-ink surface. This case is reported as a way to keep a chosen image on the phone’s back. Reading-focused accessories such as the Xteink X4 Pro serve a different purpose, so they are not direct equivalents. TechRadar’s comparison discusses that distinction, while Notebookcheck’s launch coverage situates the UGREEN case among other e-ink phone-case products.
The useful trade-off is straightforward: the UGREEN case offers a distinctive, low-power way to display a personal image on a compatible phone, but changing that image is not instantaneous, compatibility is model-specific, and reported launch availability is limited to China. Treat the purchase as a photo-display case rather than as a substitute for an e-reader or a full secondary display.
