Ubisoft Connect problems usually fall into one of four categories: a Ubisoft service outage, a stuck launcher, damaged game or launcher files, or a login and entitlement problem. Work through the checks below in order. They start with low-risk fixes and avoid deleting game installations unnecessarily.
1. Check whether Ubisoft Connect is down
Before changing Windows settings, determine whether the failure is local to your PC. Try opening a few unrelated websites and check whether other online games or launchers work.
Ubisoft Connect can open normally while individual services—such as login, friends, rewards, cloud features, or game entitlements—are unavailable. Check Ubisoft’s official support channels for a service incident. Third-party outage trackers can show that many users are reporting a problem, but they are not official confirmation.
If every Ubisoft game fails at the same time and the client reports a server, login, or service error, wait for the incident to clear before making major changes to your installation.

2. Completely exit and restart Ubisoft Connect
Closing the window does not always close the launcher. It may continue running in the Windows notification area.
- Save and close the game.
- Look at the notification area near the Windows clock. Select the arrow if hidden icons are not visible.
- Right-click the Ubisoft Connect icon and choose Exit.
- Wait a few seconds, then launch Ubisoft Connect again and sign in.
If you started the game through Steam or the Epic Games Store, exit and reopen that storefront too. A game bought through another PC store may still use Ubisoft Connect for authentication and launching.
3. Update or reinstall the Ubisoft Connect client
A damaged or outdated launcher can cause blank windows, failed sign-ins, crashes, and games that do nothing when you select Play.

- Run the installer and allow it to update or repair the client.
- Open Ubisoft Connect and check whether your library and games are detected.
Reinstalling the launcher is not the same as reinstalling every game. Do not delete installed game folders as part of this step. If the installer asks for a game location, select the folder that already contains the installation.
4. Verify the game files
A failed update, damaged download, or modified file can prevent one game from launching even when Ubisoft Connect itself works.

Games installed through Ubisoft Connect
- Open Ubisoft Connect and select the affected game.
- Open the menu beside the Play button. Depending on the client version, this may be a downward arrow or an overflow menu.
- Select Verify files.
- Let the scan finish and allow Ubisoft Connect to download replacement files.
- Restart the game after the repair completes.
Games installed through Steam or Epic Games Store
Verify the installation in the store that installed it first. In Steam, open Library, right-click the game, select Properties, choose Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files. Then retry the launch through the normal storefront and Ubisoft Connect path.
5. Disable the Ubisoft Connect overlay
The overlay can interfere with launching, game stability, performance, or other overlays. Disable it temporarily to test whether it is the cause.

- Select your profile in the upper-left corner.
- Open Settings.
- Under Interface, clear Enable in-game overlay for supported games.
- Exit Ubisoft Connect completely and relaunch the game.
Disabling the overlay also disables overlay features such as in-game friends and invites. The historically used Shift + F2 shortcut will not help when the overlay is disabled or unsupported by the game.
6. Rebuild the Ubisoft Connect launcher cache
Rename the launcher’s local data folder if Ubisoft Connect crashes immediately, displays a blank window, repeatedly signs you out, or reports that it has detected an unrecoverable error.
- Exit Ubisoft Connect from the notification area as described above.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
%localappdata%and press Enter. - Find the folder named
Ubisoft Game Launcher. - Right-click it, choose Rename, and change it to
Ubisoft Game Launcher.old. - Start Ubisoft Connect and sign in again.
Renaming is safer than deleting because it preserves a backup you can restore if needed. This targets launcher data; it is not a reason to delete installed games, save files, or the entire Ubisoft installation directory.

7. Check your account and game ownership
If Ubisoft Connect opens but the library is empty, or if it repeatedly asks for an activation key, check the account before reinstalling anything.

- Confirm that you are signed into the Ubisoft account that owns or activated the game.
- Remember that a Steam or Epic purchase is linked to the Ubisoft account used during activation. It is not automatically available to every Ubisoft account on the computer.
- If you have more than one Ubisoft account, sign out and carefully sign in to the account used when the game was first launched.
- For repeated key prompts, also retry after rebuilding the launcher cache and confirming that Ubisoft services are reachable.
A missing entitlement can look like a launcher failure, but reinstalling the game will not transfer ownership to another Ubisoft account.
8. Test security software, VPNs, and filtering tools
Web browsing can work while a firewall, antivirus, VPN, DNS filter, parental-control product, or corporate endpoint tool blocks the launcher or game.
- Temporarily disconnect a third-party VPN or filtering service.
- Test Ubisoft Connect again.
- If the test identifies a block, restore your security protection and add only Ubisoft Connect and the affected game to the product’s approved-app list.
Do not leave antivirus disabled. If the error mentions BattlEye, verify the game files, update Ubisoft Connect and your drivers, and check whether security software or another running process is interfering with the anti-cheat service.
9. Use offline mode only for supported games
Offline mode is not a repair for a failed login or an Ubisoft server outage. It generally requires the account and game to have authenticated successfully beforehand, with the required offline data already prepared.

Even when a game supports offline play, online multiplayer, friends, cloud features, rewards, achievements, and other connected services may remain unavailable. Ubisoft also notes that internet access can still be required for some games and features.
Do not expect switching to offline mode to restore a missing entitlement or fix account authentication. Treat it as a way to play an already-authorized, offline-capable title—not as a universal launcher workaround.
10. Treat DNS and IPv6 changes as targeted tests
Changing DNS servers, disabling IPv6, editing the Windows hosts file, or using a VPN is often presented as a guaranteed Ubisoft fix. It is not.
- DNS changes may help with an ISP or routing problem, but they can also create new connection or region issues.
- Ubisoft has documented IPv6-related multiplayer problems for a specific Rainbow Six Siege issue. That does not establish disabling IPv6 as a general Ubisoft Connect solution.
- Do not copy Ubisoft IP addresses into the
hostsfile from an unofficial guide. Such addresses can change, and region-specific workarounds may no longer apply. - A VPN can sometimes bypass a routing problem, but it may cause additional login, location, or security checks.
Try these network changes only when the symptoms point to a network path problem and you can undo the change afterward.

Include the following information:
- The exact error message or error code.
- Whether Ubisoft Connect opens at all.
- Whether one game or every game is affected.
- Where you bought the game: Ubisoft Connect, Steam, Epic Games Store, or another storefront.
- Your Windows version and the Ubisoft Connect version, if displayed.

Why is Ubisoft Connect not opening on my PC?
Fully exit it from the Windows notification area, restart the client, and install the current version from Ubisoft. If it still crashes, rename %localappdata%Ubisoft Game Launcher to Ubisoft Game Launcher.old, then launch the client again.
How do I fix a Ubisoft game that will not launch?
Verify the game files in the launcher that installed it. For Ubisoft Connect installations, select the game, open the menu beside Play, and choose Verify files. For Steam or Epic installations, run verification in that storefront first. You can also disable the Ubisoft Connect in-game overlay.
Why is my Ubisoft Connect library empty?
