Typeform’s hidden fields are now called URL parameters. Add them in Workflow > Pull data in, then pass values in a form link or embed. Submitted values can appear in responses and can personalize questions, support branching, or identify a campaign source. Because parameter values are exposed in URLs and related logs, never use them for passwords, tokens, or sensitive personal data.

What Typeform hidden fields are called now

Typeform’s current help-center name for hidden fields is URL parameters. Typeform describes them as data about respondents added to the end of a form URL. They let you pass information already known about someone into the form and associate it with the response. This is useful for personalization and source tracking, but it does not by itself establish that a form will receive more completions.

How to add URL parameters to a Typeform

  1. Open the form in your Typeform workspace.

  2. Go to Workflow > Pull data in.

  3. Add or enable the parameters you need. Select Add new parameter to create a custom one.

  4. Name each parameter in lowercase and use underscores instead of spaces—for example, first_name.

  5. Save the form and publish or share it so the parameters are included in the share URL.

  6. Replace the URL’s example or placeholder values with the values you want to pass. For example: https://example.typeform.com/to/FORMID#first_name=Jane&source=newsletter. Use your actual form URL and the parameter names configured in that form.

  7. Submit a test response and check the form’s Responses area to confirm the values arrive as expected.

When a value includes spaces, URL-encode them, such as Jane%20Smith. Combine multiple values with &. You can populate links manually or have a CRM or email workflow insert values automatically.

What you can do with URL parameters

Track where responses come from

Pass a source or campaign label such as source=homepage or campaign=spring_launch to distinguish responses from different links. For embedded forms, separate embed codes can use different fixed values—such as homepage and about—to identify which page produced a response.

Personalize form text

Pass known information, such as a person’s first name or the product they are asking about, and recall it in form text. This can make the form more relevant without asking for information you already have.

Use values in logic and question display

Typeform allows URL parameters to be used in branching logic like other answers. For example, a form can greet a respondent by name when a name value is present, and ask for the name when it is absent. Display logic can also hide a question when its corresponding parameter is populated, allowing respondents to skip questions that do not apply.

Dynamic embed

Configure matching parameters on the form and enable Read URL parameters for the embed.

Rank #4

A form embedded on a page where values should be read from that page’s URL.

For a dynamic embed, the parent page’s URL must contain the corresponding values, and its parameter names must match those configured in Typeform. If they do not match, the embed may not receive the intended data.

Email embeds

Typeform also documents embedding forms in email, but eligibility has prerequisites: the first question must be one of the question types supported in Typeform’s current email-embed guidance, and the form cannot contain a Welcome Screen. Check Typeform’s current supported-question list before building this version.

Protect information passed in URLs

Treat URL parameter values as exposed data. They can appear in browser history and address bars, be stored in server, proxy, or security logs, and be accessible to connected analytics or marketing tools. Do not pass passwords, authentication tokens, payment or bank details, government identifiers, confidential business information, or other sensitive or special-category data.

If a form needs to connect a respondent with sensitive information, pass a non-sensitive internal identifier and retrieve the protected details from a secured system instead. If personally identifiable values are used in URLs alongside Google Analytics, Typeform advises addressing them in Google Analytics’ Exclude URL Query Parameters settings; recording personally identifiable information may violate Google’s terms. Check applicable privacy requirements and the policies of any connected services for your specific setup.

Be careful when changing parameters on a live form

Typeform says renaming a parameter that has already collected responses deletes the previously collected responses associated with that change. Turning parameters off and republishing has a different effect: earlier parameter data is hidden in Responses, not deleted. Turning the parameters back on and republishing makes that earlier data visible again. Before renaming a parameter on a live form, verify the impact and preserve any records you need.
