Fulton Hogan uses Datacom data centres in New Zealand and Australia to host mission-critical equipment and enterprise applications. The companies describe a relationship dating to 2012, built around hosting, redundancy, controlled access and coordinated changes—not simply rented data-centre space.

What is the Fulton Hogan–Datacom partnership?

It is a long-running infrastructure and operations relationship. Datacom says the partnership is more than a decade old; a Datacom-sponsored CIO BrandPost published on April 2, 2026, says it began in 2012. The detailed account is a customer case study, not independent reporting or a technical audit.

Datacom’s customer-story summary describes Fulton Hogan as having more than 10,000 staff and dozens of complex projects underway at a time. Those are Datacom-published scale figures, not independently verified statistics.

What does Datacom provide?

Fulton Hogan reportedly places mission-critical equipment in Datacom data centres in both New Zealand and Australia. The case study describes the arrangement as infrastructure as a service, supporting applications and systems including:

Fulton Hogan Group IT Operations Manager Shirley McDonald says staff and customers need access around the clock. At the same time, upgrades and configuration changes can require downtime, so the work must be planned around the systems’ business needs.

How are access, reliability and security handled?

Redundancy and the uptime SLA

The customer account describes the hosted environment as fully redundant and says data-centre power resilience includes generators and batteries. Datacom’s summary and the sponsored case study state that its 100% uptime SLA covers power, cooling and security. That describes the stated SLA scope; neither source provides contractual text or an independently audited uptime record, so it does not establish that users experienced uninterrupted service in every period.

Customer approval for equipment access

The case study says Datacom staff must obtain Fulton Hogan’s authorisation before accessing its equipment racks. McDonald describes that approval process as part of the security discipline around the hosted environment. The account also says Datacom’s data-centre ISO certifications helped Fulton Hogan with its own certification process, but it prints the identifier “ISO270001” in connection with a major-utilities-contract requirement. The exact certification standard is not established by the account, so that identifier should not be treated as confirmed.

How does the partnership support changes and incidents?

The customer account presents change management and incident support as central to the relationship. Datacom reportedly centralises infrastructure and application changes, assigns a change manager, and checks available power resources before a rollout across data centres. That process is intended to coordinate the work and manage potential downtime.

McDonald also says Datacom personnel help investigate incidents, including some that are not caused by Datacom infrastructure. This is her description of the customer experience, not an independent service audit. It suggests the relationship extends beyond data-centre hosting to coordinated operational support.

What should readers take from the customer account?

The case study’s practical picture is of a customer using geographically distributed data centres for essential systems, with planned change control, redundancy and approval-based rack access. McDonald says, “We consider Datacom to be part of the Fulton Hogan team because we are both invested in the same outcome.” She also says, “It just makes business easy when you’re doing it with people that you can trust.” These are customer-reported views in a Datacom-sponsored CIO BrandPost, rather than independently measured outcomes.

For organisations assessing a similar arrangement, useful questions include what an SLA covers and excludes, how recovery and redundancy are designed, where data is hosted, how staff access is authorised, who coordinates application changes, and how support responsibilities and exit arrangements are defined. The Fulton Hogan account does not compare providers or disclose enough contract detail to answer those questions for another organisation.
