jquick-curl lets Java developers describe HTTP requests with familiar curl-style commands, then parse and execute them through Java rather than launching the system curl program. Its documentation presents an ANTLR parser and an OkHttp transport layer, with request definitions available through Java annotations or XML. It is a way to reuse supported curl syntax—not a promise of complete curl compatibility.

What jquick-curl does

The project is a curl-command-oriented HTTP client framework for Java. You can start with a command copied from a browser, Postman, or terminal, then define it in Java or XML and invoke it through a dynamic proxy. That approach can make existing request examples easier to reuse in an application without translating every request into a separate client-builder sequence.

The documented processing flow is: curl string, annotation or XML configuration; ANTLR lexer and parser; a visitor and request context that handle variables and conditions; OkHttp transport; response body; and response conversion. The README says the library does not start a system curl process.

How to define requests

Java annotations

With @JCurlCommand, a curl-style command is associated with a Java interface method. The project documents a dynamic proxy for invoking these declarations. Annotation placeholders use the ${name} form, according to the README.

XML configuration

XML offers a centralized alternative to putting request declarations on Java methods, and the project likewise documents proxy-based invocation. XML placeholders commonly use #{name}; conditional rendering with <if> is also documented. Choose between the two based on where your team wants request definitions to live, rather than assuming one has broader curl compatibility.

Supported requests and curl options

The README lists these HTTP methods: GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, DELETE, HEAD, OPTIONS, and TRACE. It also documents options for method selection, headers, request data, URL-encoded form data, basic authentication, redirects, multipart uploads, output or downloads, proxies, HTTP/2, TLS certificate-check bypass, and verbosity or silent flags.

This is a defined supported set, not a claim that every curl option behaves identically. The project warns that it is not a complete replacement for the system curl command and advises checking options and methods not listed in the documentation against the particular version in use. CONNECT appears internally, but the README does not promise it as a stable documented capability.

Features beyond a single request

  • Variable substitution and conditional rendering: supply values at invocation time and, in XML, conditionally render request content.
  • Uploads and downloads: use documented multipart upload and output/download options for file-oriented requests.
  • Batch execution: the project lists batches among its capabilities, for running multiple configured requests as a group.
  • Request behavior controls: interceptors, timeouts, retries, redirects, and connection pooling are listed in the documentation.
  • Dynamic proxies: invoke annotation- or XML-defined requests through Java interfaces.

These are documented capabilities; the README does not provide independent performance results or a guarantee that every curl command can be carried over unchanged.

Credentials and configuration

The README warns against committing passwords, tokens, or private keys in Java source or XML. It demonstrates injecting a bearer token from an environment variable through an interceptor. Treat that as an example of parameterizing a request, not as a security audit or a complete credential-management policy.

When it fits—and when it may not

jquick-curl is most relevant when a team already exchanges curl examples and wants to turn supported requests into reusable Java interface calls or centralized XML definitions. Its project-authored comparison frames it against OkHttp, RestTemplate, and HttpClient across request definition, collaboration, configuration, dynamic requests, API integration, and files or methods. That is the project’s positioning, not an independent benchmark: no performance figures or independently tested superiority claims are established.

If you need the full behavior of the system curl executable, depend on options absent from the documented list, or require an independently verified compatibility guarantee, check the exact release documentation and test representative commands before adopting it. A curl command that parses is not automatically proof that its behavior matches curl in every edge case.

Dependency, version, and license

The repository gives the Maven coordinates io.github.paohaijiao:jquick-curl and identifies the license as Apache License 2.0. The README search result showed version 2.2.0, while a mirror result showed 2.5.0; that discrepancy is unresolved, so neither should be treated here as the current published version. Check the official release or artifact metadata before selecting a dependency version.

The Dromara GitHub organization listing displayed a repository update date of September 17, 2026. That is activity metadata, not a guarantee of maintenance cadence or compatibility; dependency versions and project activity can change.
