What Framework documented was a shifting set of price changes and temporary pauses for some lower-priced configurations as import tariffs changed. The record shows effects on what customers could order and what some products cost—not how many laptops Framework sold.
What changed for US Framework Laptop 13 buyers
On April 9, 2025, Framework said it would raise US prices on in-stock laptops and new system preorders by approximately 10%. It also temporarily paused its lowest-priced configurations and delayed the US preorder launch of the Laptop 12. Framework said Taiwan-made products then faced a newly announced 32% US import tariff, while many modules made in China faced higher rates. These figures describe the situation Framework reported at that time, not current tariff rates. Framework’s tariff updates
PCWorld reported that the paused Laptop 13 configurations included models with the Intel Core Ultra 5 125H and AMD Ryzen 5 7640U. It quoted Framework’s explanation that, at the remaining 10% tariff, the company would have to sell its lowest-end systems at a loss. That is a stated reason for pausing configurations; neither PCWorld nor Framework published US unit sales, order counts, or conversion data showing a sales collapse. PCWorld’s April 9, 2025 report
How Framework’s response changed over time
The April 2025 actions were not a single permanent price increase. Framework’s subsequent updates described reversals and adjustments as tariff conditions changed:

Framework also updated its tariff post on August 1 and November 17, 2025, and March 23, 2026. In August, it said there were no new tariff changes then affecting its product pricing and that it was maintaining US prices. In November, it described a reduction in one China tariff affecting products such as the 60W Power Adapter and many Expansion Cards, while noting that supplier costs and remaining tariffs still affected some prices. In March 2026, it said some previously increased prices had fallen—sometimes back to original levels, sometimes only partially. These are company statements about dated changes, not confirmation of the Laptop 13’s price or stock in September 2026. Framework’s dated update history
Why one tariff figure does not describe every Framework order
Framework’s account distinguishes between where an item was located, where it was made, and whether it was already in stock or newly imported. Stock in its New Jersey warehouse could retain earlier pricing, while newly imported inventory or new items could reflect applicable tariff costs. It also described different effects for complete laptops and individual modules, as well as for configurations and preorder batches.

That is why the approximately 10% price adjustment, the historical 32% Taiwan tariff, and configuration pauses should not be treated as a uniform surcharge on every Laptop 13. Framework said, “We won’t pass on tariff-related costs if we’re not incurring them.” That stated approach does not mean every tariff reduction immediately lowered every product’s price; Framework’s later updates describe mixed outcomes.
What the 2026 US tariff announcement establishes—and what it does not
A White House proclamation signed February 20, 2026, established a temporary 10% import surcharge effective February 24, with a stated term through July 24, 2026 unless changed or extended by Congress. It also listed exceptions for certain electronics. The proclamation does not by itself establish the tariff classification or applicable rate for a specific Framework Laptop 13 import on September 27, 2026. Nor does Framework’s March update settle that product-specific question. White House proclamation, February 20, 2026

What is known about sales
The cited Framework updates and PCWorld report document price and availability changes, but provide no US Laptop 13 sales or order figures. A temporary pause on some configurations can show that those versions were unavailable to order for a time; it cannot establish how many customers bought other configurations, whether total sales fell, or whether tariffs caused a sales decline. The headline’s claim that tariffs “crushed” sales is therefore not supported by the published evidence cited here.
