Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company that operates Truth Social, reported a $327.6 million GAAP net loss for the three months ended March 31, 2024. The result was announced on May 20, 2024; it is a historical figure, not a current-quarter report. TMTG also reported $770,500 in revenue. The loss was not equivalent to $327.6 million in cash spent by Truth Social operations: it included substantial accounting items, including noncash expenses the company attributed to note conversions and liability elimination.

What TMTG reported for the first quarter of 2024

The figures below are for Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. as a consolidated company—not for Truth Social as a separately reported business unit. Its Form 10-Q covers the three months ended March 31, 2024, and was filed with the SEC on May 20, 2024.

Measure Quarter ended March 31, 2024 Comparison quarter ended March 31, 2023
Revenue $770,500 $1,116,200
GAAP operating loss $98.353 million Not stated here; see the SEC Form 10-Q
GAAP net loss $327.600 million $210.300 million

These are TMTG’s consolidated figures as reported in its SEC Form 10-Q. Revenue fell year over year. In its discussion, the company said revenue was largely from an early-stage advertising initiative and that a change in the revenue share with one advertising partner contributed significantly to the decline.

Why the net loss was much larger than the operating loss

Net loss and operating loss are different measures. TMTG reported a $98.353 million GAAP operating loss, while its $327.600 million GAAP net loss also reflected large items outside that operating-loss figure—most notably a $225.916 million loss from a change in the fair value of derivative liabilities. The 10-Q also reports $84.588 million in stock-based compensation expense.

In a separate explanation in its May 20, 2024 earnings release, TMTG attributed $311.0 million of noncash expenses to the conversion of promissory notes and the associated elimination of prior liabilities immediately before the March 25 merger closing. The company said those expenses resulted in a GAAP loss of $327.6 million. The $311.0 million company explanation and the individual 10-Q line items describe accounting effects from the period; they should not be added together as if they were separate expenses that sum to the net loss.

The 10-Q allocates the stock-based compensation expense between $54.446 million in general and administrative expense and $30.143 million in research and development. It attributes the former to promissory notes issued to executives and a consultant that converted into shares, and the latter to vendor notes connected with development of a planned streaming platform.

Does a $327.6 million net loss mean Truth Social spent that much cash?

No. GAAP net loss is an accounting measure, not a direct measure of cash consumed. The reported result includes noncash items, including the derivative fair-value loss and stock-based compensation, as well as the note-conversion and liability-elimination expenses described by the company. The headline figure therefore does not establish that TMTG paid out $327.6 million in cash during the quarter.

It also does not establish that Truth Social alone lost that amount. The filing reports TMTG’s consolidated results, and the company does not present the headline loss as a platform-only financial statement.

How to interpret TMTG’s alternative loss figure

TMTG’s earnings release also reported a $12.1 million non-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA operating loss for the first quarter of 2024. That is a company-defined adjusted measure, not the GAAP net loss, and it is not interchangeable with the $98.353 million GAAP operating loss in the 10-Q or the $327.600 million GAAP net loss. The SEC-furnished earnings release provides the company’s explanation and its reconciliation of the measure.

CEO Devin Nunes described TMTG as “well-capitalized” after the merger in that release. That was management’s characterization, not an independent finding. The release also said the company was focused on product development.

What later reporting shows—and what it does not

The headline refers to the first quarter of 2024, not the latest reported quarter. In a later Form 10-Q for the three months ended June 30, 2026, TMTG reported an unaudited net loss of $238.111 million and net sales of $1.670 million. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, it reported an unaudited net loss of $643.995 million and net sales of $2.541 million. These are figures for those specific 2026 periods; they are not a direct continuation of the 2024 headline because the business and accounting mix can change.

The same June 30, 2026 Form 10-Q describes a broader TMTG business that includes Truth Social, Truth+, Truth.Fi, and a digital-asset strategy that includes a bitcoin treasury. That later context is another reason not to treat the company’s 2024 consolidated loss as a current measure of Truth Social’s standalone performance.
