A Hindustan Times report names creatine, omega-3s, magnesium, vitamin B12 and vitamin D as supplements that may support mental clarity. The list was attributed to Maryland physician Dr. Kunal Sood’s Instagram post, shared October 1, 2026. Hindustan Times updated its report October 2 and said it was based on user-generated social-media content, had not independently verified the claims and did not endorse them. The evidence discussed below does not establish these supplements as reliable treatments for nonspecific brain fog.
Which five supplements did the physician name?
The report attributes the following explanations to Sood. These are descriptions of the post, not independently established conclusions about treating brain fog.
- Creatine: The post linked creatine’s role in the creatine-phosphocreatine system to brain energy and cited possible working-memory or cognition benefits under sleep deprivation.
- Omega-3s: It described DHA as part of brain-cell membranes and EPA and DHA as influencing inflammatory signaling.
- Magnesium: It connected magnesium with energy production and normal nerve function, while noting that early findings on magnesium L-threonate should not be generalized to every magnesium form.
- Vitamin B12: It described B12’s roles in myelin, nerve function and red blood cells, and distinguished treating a true deficiency from supplementing when levels are adequate.
- Vitamin D: It suggested that deficiency may contribute to fatigue and that treating a deficiency may help some people feel cognitively better.
Hindustan Times’ October 2026 report is the source for the list and its attributed rationales.

That has not been established by the evidence summarized here. “Brain fog” is a broad, nonspecific symptom; studies of cognition, cognitive decline or dementia—often in older adults—do not automatically show that a supplement relieves it. The reviewed sources do not establish that these five supplements, individually or as a group, reliably treat nonspecific brain fog.

There is an important distinction between correcting a diagnosed deficiency and taking extra nutrients when levels are adequate. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) says research has not found clear cognitive benefits from multivitamins or high doses of individual vitamins in well-nourished people. That does not mean a diagnosed deficiency should be left untreated. NCCIH’s brain-health summary and the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) omega-3 fact sheet summarize evidence for particular populations and cognitive outcomes, not a general remedy for brain fog.
What the evidence says about each supplement
Creatine
The reported rationale focuses on brain energy and possible cognitive effects in conditions such as sleep deprivation. That rationale does not establish creatine as a treatment for everyday, unexplained brain fog. The evidence summarized for this article does not provide a direct trial showing that creatine reliably relieves that symptom.

Omega-3s
Findings on cognition are mixed or negative in several studied older-adult populations. NIH ODS describes no significant cognitive difference in some large trials and says the overall evidence does not show an effect in healthy older adults or people with Alzheimer’s disease; possible findings in people with mild cognitive impairment need confirmation.
In the AREDS2 study, 3,501 older adults with age-related macular degeneration received DHA and EPA supplementation or comparison treatment over five years. The supplements did not significantly affect cognitive function in that study population. As the National Eye Institute reported in 2015, deputy director and clinical deputy director Emily Chew, M.D., said: “Contrary to popular belief, we didn’t see any benefit of omega-3 supplements for stopping cognitive decline.” That finding concerns cognitive decline in older adults, not every possible cause of brain fog.

Magnesium
The post’s caveat about magnesium L-threonate matters: a finding about one formulation cannot automatically be applied to other magnesium forms. The evidence summarized here does not establish magnesium supplements as a general treatment for brain fog, or show that one form works better than another for this symptom.
Vitamin B12
A genuine B12 deficiency can cause health problems, so evidence against routine supplementation in people who are not deficient should not be mistaken for a reason to ignore a diagnosed deficiency. For cognitive outcomes, NCCIH summarizes a Cochrane review that found no evidence of beneficial cognitive effects from B-vitamin supplementation over six to 24 months in the trials reviewed. NIH ODS notes that further trials are needed. These findings do not show that B12 supplementation treats nonspecific brain fog or settle care for someone with a deficiency.

Vitamin D
The reported claim focuses on deficiency and possible fatigue or cognitive effects after treatment. The material summarized here does not establish that taking vitamin D when levels are adequate relieves brain fog. A potential benefit from correcting deficiency is a different question from using it as a general clarity supplement.

How to think about a supplement before taking it
There is no direct head-to-head comparison of all five supplements for brain fog in the evidence summarized here, so a “best” ranking is not supported. If you are considering one, the useful questions are whether a deficiency has been diagnosed, whether the evidence applies to your situation, whether a claim is specific to a formulation, and whether the supplement is appropriate alongside your medicines and health conditions.

Because brain fog is nonspecific, persistent or worsening symptoms are a reason to discuss them with a healthcare professional rather than assuming a supplement is the answer. A clinician can assess whether testing or treatment is appropriate, including whether a nutrient deficiency is involved.
What about other “brain” supplements?
Ginkgo is not one of the five supplements in Sood’s reported list. NCCIH says there is no conclusive evidence that ginkgo prevents or slows dementia or cognitive decline; it also notes possible side effects and bleeding risk. A large trial involving more than 3,000 older adults found that the ginkgo extract EGb-761 did not lower overall dementia or Alzheimer’s incidence, according to NCCIH’s 2022 summary. Those results address dementia incidence in older adults, not brain fog.
