To transfer DJI video to a PC, either connect the aircraft to the computer and copy its files, or remove the microSD card and copy the files through a compatible card reader. First check whether your footage is stored on the card or in the aircraft’s internal storage; the available storage and connection steps vary by model.
Before you transfer: find where the footage is stored
DJI aircraft do not all have the same storage options or folder layout. Check your specific model’s instructions and determine whether the video is on internal aircraft storage or the installed microSD card. For models covered by DJI’s export guide, a connected computer may show storage named InternalStorage and SD_card. Those names are not guaranteed across every model. DJI’s export guide explains the supported workflow and model differences.
Method 1: Copy footage by connecting the aircraft
- Turn to your aircraft’s model-specific instructions to confirm the correct port and connection behavior. DJI specifies USB-C in its guide for the models it covers; use a compatible data cable, not a cable that only charges.
- Connect the aircraft to the PC. Open File Explorer and look for the aircraft’s available storage.
- Open the storage location containing your footage. Depending on the model, it may appear as
InternalStorageorSD_card. - Create a destination folder on the PC, then copy the video files into it. Leave the originals on the aircraft or card until you have checked that the copied files open and play.
If the aircraft does not appear in File Explorer, verify the model’s connection instructions and try a compatible data cable. The port and how storage is exposed depend on the aircraft, so do not assume every DJI model connects or appears identically. See DJI’s export instructions.

Method 2: Copy the microSD card with a reader
- Remove the microSD card from the aircraft, following the model’s instructions.
- Insert it into a compatible card reader and connect the reader to the PC.
- In File Explorer, open the card, locate the video files, and copy them to a folder on the PC.
- Open a few copied files to confirm the transfer before deleting anything from the card or reusing it.
This route transfers footage stored on the card and avoids connecting the aircraft directly. DJI lists a card reader as a direct way to export card footage to a computer. See DJI’s export guide.

Which transfer method should you use?

Choose based on where the footage is stored and which connection is practical. Connecting the aircraft avoids removing the card; a reader is useful when you want to access card footage without connecting the aircraft. DJI documents both methods, but does not establish that one is universally faster. Check the model-specific guidance.
Back up footage before formatting or reusing a card
Keep a second copy before formatting a card or recording over its contents. DJI’s backup instructions advise ensuring the aircraft has sufficient battery and the destination has enough space, then connecting the aircraft to a computer and copying the DCIM folder to the computer or another storage medium. DJI identifies DCIM/100MEDIA as a common location for photos and videos; the exact location can vary. Read DJI’s backup guidance. Why phone QuickTransfer may not solve a PC transfer
QuickTransfer is a phone connection and download workflow, not a universal way to move original footage directly to a PC. DJI says smartphone export supports H.264 video; H.265 video requires a computer for export. QuickTransfer is also available only on supported models. For footage that needs computer export, use the aircraft connection or card-reader method above. DJI’s export guide and QuickTransfer troubleshooting describe these limits.
