Transcend announced a $40 million Series B financing on May 28, 2024, led by StepStone Group. The company said the round brought its total funding to nearly $90 million and would support its enterprise privacy and AI governance platform.

Who invested in Transcend’s Series B?

StepStone Group led the round. HighlandX and existing investors Accel, Index Ventures, 01 Advisors (01A), Script Capital, and South Park Commons also participated, according to Transcend’s announcement. Axios independently reported the $40 million financing and StepStone’s role as lead investor in its May 28, 2024 coverage.

Transcend said the financing brought its cumulative funding to nearly $90 million. That total is the company’s figure; Axios confirmed the round amount and lead investor but did not independently establish the cumulative total.

What did Transcend say its platform does?

At the time of the announcement, Transcend described its offering as a privacy and AI governance suite for enterprise customers. The company said it had grown from consumer-facing data rights products into tools intended to help organizations manage privacy across their data systems.

Data discovery and classification

Transcend said the platform could discover and classify data, helping organizations identify what information they hold and where it is handled.

Consent and preferences

The suite also included consent and preference management, according to the company’s description.

Automated privacy workflows

Transcend said its software automated workflows such as data deletion and access requests. These are descriptions of the product’s intended scope, not independent findings about its performance or results at customer organizations.

How was Transcend positioned in the market?

Transcend’s announcement emphasized a technical, integration-oriented approach to privacy and AI governance. StepStone Partner John Avirett endorsed that positioning, saying the company tackled privacy “at the code level” and describing customers moving from legacy platforms and point solutions to Transcend. That is an investor’s assessment, not an independent product comparison.

Axios characterized Transcend as competing with legacy data privacy tools, including OneTrust. Its report also quoted CEO and co-founder Ben Brook saying customers wanted an integrated system that was technically capable of connecting to the systems processing their data. This market framing does not establish that Transcend outperformed any competitor.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish

The May 2024 announcement documents a $40 million financing and the company’s stated product direction at that time. It does not establish Transcend’s current product lineup, pricing, company status, or comparative performance. Transcend also cited a projected $30 billion global data privacy software market by 2030 and 40% compound annual growth, but those were company-published estimates rather than independently validated figures.
